One stanza from a tune written and performed by James McMurtry on an album called "Childish Things"
The song title is "We Can't Make It Here" "Should I hate a people for the shade of their skin Or the shape of their eyes or the shape I’m in Should I hate ‘em for having our jobs today No I hate the men sent the jobs away I can see them all now, they haunt my dreams All lily white and squeaky clean They’ve never known want, they’ll never know need Their [shitt] don’t stink and their kids won’t bleed Their kids won’t bleed in their damn little war And we can’t make it here anymore." Last Christmas I said I would buy only made in USA,,, Guess what I could not find anything! The food from China is a big concern.. We produce more food than any country in the world so why eat anything that has safety concerns ?Meanwhile US farmers have a hard time keeping family farms running.

Wasnt it Clinton who signed the Fair Trade Treaty taking all NC's textile mills overseas, and causing the loss of many jobs in NC.(My husband is from Forest City. Beautiful place, I would love to move back with him someday.) |

Im in the midwest now, and I can tell you it is insane here how all the developers are buying up all the land and puting in subdivisions with houses right on top of each other. I grew up where I live currently and across the street used to be a cattle farm, not any longer, now its a huge subdivision as the city drove out the farmer and made him relocate after his family worked this land since 1908. I agree with you that all the farm land is fastly dissappearing. (My husbands from Forest City, NC) |

I feel for the people that worked at Hanes, seeing we the people of Caldwell lost 95% of our manufactoring jobs. We also just got a 22% property tax increase last year.
Big bad google came to town(Lenoir) for the sum of $265,000,000 tax dollars(State&County). The total of 210 jobs with no promise of anyone from Lenoir being hired. They honored our county with $2,000,000 in taes last year but they didn't have to pay near that much in their deal. They wanted to look good. The $2,000,000 is .333 of 1% of their worth in Lenoir. What a tax break. Would be nice if we all could get that deal but the unemployed and under payed workers have got to foot the bill not big business. |

Honey, rejoice. Your great great grandchilren will realize a few pennies ever month for this great bastion of Google in your county. And one of these days Google will hire a token citizen of Caldwell County and put him on the parole. Now where is the editor in cheef when I need a proofreader? |
