I was an eleven year old child who was playing with two of his sons the day before he took their lives. I have never forgotten that day. His children did not have a choice to live, he should make the choice to stay in prison. I do not feel that he deserves his freedom.

I'm Sorry but that SOB needs to stay in prison and if at all possible be given the death penalty for what he has done. 200 years isn't long enough. He does not deserve his freedom EVER!@!

Yes he killed his children and should stay locked up .... but i do feel he is remorsful for what he did... above the beds of the children he wrote send this child to heaven. That doesnt justify it but it does show remorse. Let god decide what should be done. I feel he is so old their is nothin he can do now, but taste a piece of freedom before he meets his maker

My mother was the children's babysitter/nanny and was best friends with their mother. The events that happened have scarred her for life, and have had a huge impact on me, my brother and my entire family. I want to personally thank everyone who petitions against his parole. It has brought peace of mind to my mother to know that he is still paying for destroying so many lives.

This is not true - he did not write anything above the childrens' beds - he killed them brutally and left the house in a blizzard to head to Milwaukee so he could tell their mother that he'd killed them all. Old or not, remorseful or not, he is a cold-blooded killer and deserves no taste of freedom.

God forbid he ever see freedom again, when i was home for a visit in June 2008, his parole hearing was coming up and that is one tragic story, now at the age 42, i will never forget. he should of recieved the death penalty, this is a perfect example of justice not being served!! god bless those children and the dog, that was also killed, may he never see outside the walls, ever.and as one wrote remorseful, b.s. may he burn in the pits of hell forever.

i personly think that he should burn in hell forever. He should never be let out .He has so many reasons to be in jail he should never ever be let outfor what he did to the children he made. There is no reason for him to be cruel to his own children.

the house those poor inocent children were killed is now for sale , i disagree with most of you becaus his kids were suffering and not being cared for well my mother use to go to a day care with rose and david the two younger kids and their living conditions were bruitly ridicilious they should let him go because he killed his kids out of love because he could not watch them suffer god have mercy on him

Are you kidding me? He was only thinking about himself and his pain when he murdered those children. Their living conditions were not squalid - they lived in a nice home in a good neighborhood. Jennifer even went to a private catholic school. We were all impressed with her graceful figure skating talent. Your mother was a small child in 1978, but I was 12 years old and I believe my memory is probably more concise. He wasn't trying to save them from suffering, he caused their suffering.

I always wondered what happened to the mother. Did she remarry? Did she have any more kids? Was she cheatin on him? Is that why he killed her kids? How could you kill your own kids?

How could you keep going back killing one after the ohter? Six times! Six beautiful children! He should NEVER EVER get out!

I completely agree with you. I was a classmate of Matt. The events of 31 years ago today have impacted my life (and the lives of countless others who knew the Nelson kids) more than I ever realized as a 7 year old. May they rest in peace.

I believe their mother moved away from Rockford and changed her name. I always wondered how she able to cope with such a devastating loss. I hope she was able to find happiness. It was rumored she was with another man in the hotel in Milwaukee that night. No one really knows for sure. He said that she called him that night and told him she wanted a divorce and he just snapped. Maybe he had been drinking, but he said he blacked out and doesn't remember killing them. He probably had a predisposition for violence.

I remember hearing rumors she was having an affair with a local attorney. Not that it matters. Whatever was going on bet=wwen them the children were innocent. He needs to rot in jail!

I skated with Jennifer almost every day and knew her mom from the rink. Now I'm 42 years old and it still haunts me, especially this time of the year. I'll always remember the tv shot of the white caskets lined up at the cemetary. My parents wouldn't let me go to the funeral because I was so traumatized. I couldn't sleep for months. My mom grew up in Galesburg and new of SPN's family there. Their house was known in town because his father had hung himself in the foyer. Too bad SPN didn't make that choice for himself rather than what he did to those poor innocent children.

Was SPN physically abusive to his wife and kids? Do you know (JFP)?? Was he a real jerk?

I am a relative of the family and am still not able to get over this unspeakable horror. I am so glad to hear others expressing fond memories of the kids. My famiy and I only saw them once a year during the holidays, but we always had such fun and I miss them dearly.

I am Pete Nelsons grandson and I have never even met my grandfather nor do I ever want to.I have read all the articles about what he did to my aunts and uncles and have personally seen how it has impacted his other children that are still living, including my mother. It has left a wound that can never be healed by anything he says or tries to do.I never even got to know my aunts and uncles because of his brutal selfish act that snuffed out thier lives. But I do believe that they are in heaven, enjoying eternal life with Christ our Lord!!Peter Nelson,my grandfather, should never be allowed to see freedom.he should feel lucky hes still alive and didnt fry for what he did to my family...May god have mercy on his soul...
