I am hard pressed to understand why AEP was able to make an eminent domain claim in this case.

Eminent Domain is supposed to be used for cases for the 'public good'. Public Good in this case appears to be secondary here.

And certainly, while a hung jury does not mean acquittal, it may be difficult to gain a conviction.

These people think they are above the law...
It's a citizens responsibility to obey the law, even if they disagree with the law or the courts decision.....
The Supreme Court says it's every citizens responsibility to submit to arrest.....The arrest should be "fought" in court, not on the street...
What if we all just only obeyed the laws we agreed with???....And you think .08 is way to low...OMVI should be .25 or higher???...I should be able to build my new addition without following the code, which I think is to strict......
The court rules against me...no problem, I'll just ignore the decision.....

I'm sure that eminent domain case was real fair. A husband and wife against one of the largest power companies in the world.

I bet GE is proud to have him on the payroll and the extra publicity that he gives them.... Wonder why they have not found a reason to let him GO... Oh and kicking an officer of the law in the crotch is a class move.

Ohio's eminent domain always favours the ones with the most money. I would never vote to convict in a case like this. If I were pepper-sprayed by anyone, I'd shoot the son-of-a-(expletive omitted)

The Ogles are wasting their time and their money. Eminent Domain my butt. The got railroaded and that's obvious. But still they've got 88 acres. Most regular people don't have 1 acres so why all the fuss? AEP has deep pockets. Not so sure about the Ogles. I am sure there are a few attorneys who no longer have to worry about paying for their kids college or maybe even their mortgage. The people winning are AEP and the attorneys.

They were beaten before they put up their fight because AEP is big enough to pay off any judge in the land. Bottom line is the Ogles may eventually win the fight but at age 47 they're probably screwing themselves out of what might have been a nice retirement.

Standing on principle in a no win situation is just plain stupid. Worst case scenario is both of them wind up losing their jobs because of all the bad publicity and their savings wind up at zero. What then? What's the good of principle when you're the only one with it?

This country has gone to the dogs. At least now the Ogles know what it's like to be treated as second class citizens. Minorities and foreigners found that out a long time ago!

AEP just got $97 million from Obama and Ted to put so called smart meters on our homes to turn the light off when they want. It is more control of our lives. If you think big business is only a GOP supporter then you need to learn much more. WHy do you think Obama picked who on wall street lived and died. Why did Obama take over the auto industry, killing the stock holders which is our retirement funds and give it to unions? Wake up. They are all dirty on both sides and it is time they worked for us not for the almighty $$ and power.

I would have a hard time considering an off duty rent-a-cop an officer of the law. Not while he is not actually working in an official capacity.

I admire these veterans who have to defend their own property against corporate greed.

We've been ruled by corporations since the Civil War--they run this country...not us. Look how BP handles the Gulf oil spill...you can bet they'll write off every dollar spent & us taxpayers will foot the bill.

To the Ogle's...I admire your spirit & standing up to AEP like Spartacus stood up to Rome. All the chips are on the side of greed...but like you said..somretimes the line is drawn in ths sand & you fight for what you believe in. I hope you kick their butts.

Dang proud of you...ashamed of AEP & the greed they represent.

They are messing around in the wrong Court. Sue in Federal Court. The Cop was an agent for AEP at the time, so sue AEP. Once that happens hit them with discovery, which will rachet up the costs for the big boys. The suit will also make AEP: see potential liabilities ($). This will do two things, get the case in front of a more impartial judge and make AEP come to the table to negotiate ( a business decision). As to the Officer, why is he making legal comments and not the prosecutor? It would seem that the Officer is escalating the issue. De-esclatate the situation by removing the Officer to other duty. Again they are in the wrong Court, Federal Court would have put it on the fast track. Oh well, everyone have a good sunday.

If AEP handed these nutjobs a big enough check they all of a sudden might not feel so patriotic.
I remember the day the Vinton County Sheriff was shot and killed by a guy that was having a dispute with a power company over access to his land. That man died of old age in prison.
The Ogles need to wake up and smell the coffee and realize at some point they will have to give up or face prison or if the escalate the situation they could be spending more then a few months behind bars all because they don't want a power line passing in front of their property.
The public (majority) needs the power and gas lines that cross through Hocking County so the needs and whacko rantings of the Ogles are far less important.
Besides what attorney in thier right mind is going to let these people rack up now well over $100,00.00 in fees without wanting payment so Ogles may lose thier land to the attorney who no doubt will file a lien for payment once the lose in court.

...a court order to take a 1,500-foot-long by 30-foot-wide swath of the Ogles’ frontage
...A county deputy paid by the utility
...plans by Columbia Gas Transmission Corp. to drill a second natural-gas storage well on their 88-acre property
This is just ONE example of a business taking personal property from a private owner, and the court agreeing. And, a cop being paid by a business, now what kind of lies do you think this guy will be telling.
Owning property in this country has become a joke, as anyone can see in this article! I just wish I could be on any jury in this case, they would NEVER be guilty!!!!
It's sad that a judge can just decide that a for profit company can just come in and take personal property, and the business can hire their own law enforcers! Sad! Sad!!
