Felt Tremors and heard an explosion @ around 10:30PM. My house shook!!! Checked outside and nothing... It could be Piccatiny Arsenal....

We felt it on Fleetwood in Rockaway Twp- it was an earthquake! News 12 confirmed it. Wow! We thought at first that it was either an explosion at Picatinny or rock blasting at the quary. Or first thought was a tanker blew up on 80, but we ruled that out when we didn't see a fireball. First time I can recall feeling an earthquake in my entire life (and I'm not young).
BTW- my hubby's first reaction was also "who did that?"

my son just told me that last NJ earthquake was a 5.7 in the 1700's.

yeah holy cheese! we thought something exploded...Dover/rockaway border....stuff flew off our shelves going down into the basement..my husband and i drove around looking for an explosion(neighbor heard a report it had come from Mt Hope rd according to the police)...nothing...then i called the police...they said unconfirmed earthquake...i completely forgot about Piccatiny...that scares me more...I'll take an earthquake over that...it was just so short

it was not an earthquake, where i come very often that happens, and for me, that's not an earthquake , and earthquake does not sound like an explosion.

1010 wins news broadcasts that it was a 2.9 magnitude earthquake hitting rockaway and surrounding areas...i agree, it did feel like an explosion, and explosions can feel like earthquakes..maybe it's a conspiracy......

Yea me too, I felt like something fell on my roof which shook the whole house, I put on my coat and went outside and looked up at the roof to see if I find anything, but nothing. It was kind of scary.

Lets hope everyone has a great morning on Feb. 3 because last night reminded me of something great that was to come... "Last day of the world" Just kidding. Earthquakes rarely happen in the east coast unless the weight of the metropolis's on the tri-state area causes some of the fault lines to shift...again just kidding.

Anyone else feel what could have been another earthquake in Rockaway Twp this morning (March 19, 2009) around 7:08 am? It felt and sounded the same as the last time (like someone heavy jumped out of bed and shook the house while dropping some furniture). It had me looking outside again and woke my son. Anyone else?
