No jail time for an unprovoked attack using dangerous weapons, and disfiguring somebody's appearance. I wonder if it's because she's pregnant, or because she's black.

AA would welcome this lady who is studying nursing. She will most certainly be treating patients who have abused alcohol or drugs or tobacco or food, etc. To be the best nurse that she can be, she needs to take care of her own addiction. AA will provide a safe environment for her to share her story with others and help her on the road to recovery. It's her choice.
As for the bartender, she ought to receive restitution for the harm brought upon her. I'm glad to read that she refused to serve this young lady who was clearly drunk.

Do you live in dreamland or what? The pig is probably some welfare slug with no hope of redemption. I guess she was in the bar at 2 a.m. studying for finals. Strip her of her welfare check and free tuition. I see all the potential for belonging to "Future Crack-Heads of PA" if not already a member. The pig will not even miss out on her familys' annual watermelon roll. Good work judge.

Quite the contrary. The judge, as I read it, had an opportunity to do just as you stated by placing her in a correctional facility. He chose otherwise. No, sir, I live very much in realityland. That's why I mentioned AA. Only about 10% of those who abuse alcohol or drugs or (fill in the blank) choose to receive help from any kind of support group. Only about 10% of those who are spouses or family members or friends choose to receive help from support groups. Most people refuse to admit that they need help. So, sir, as already stated, I do live in the real world. And, you?

Probation????? Now think about this - how would you like to be a patient in a hospital and have this lovely taking care of you?

2AM - with child and drinking, sucking in second hand smoke, acting the ass, and she gets probation? What''s going to happen when we, tax paying citizens, have another retarded child to care for, for the next 50 years. Where's her husband?
Ask me, and no one does, this makes the case for involuntary sterilization. Get her fixed, we do it to our pets, it works. She can screw the whole world then.

We need to wake up!!!

Sorry LadyeHawke, kinda' crude but this is one of my buttons. One mistake, get 'em fixed, cut 'em loose. No more kids, just a life of fun and games, which is what this type of folk seem to want.

No apology necessary, Old Cynic. Thanks for sharing your thoughts. I appreciate it. This week I'll attend a meeting of recovering adult children of alcoholics. I'm one of the few who has admitted that they need help after being raised in such an abusive setting. As for her becoming a Registered Nurse, she has to pass the boards. From what I've been told, they are difficult. What concerns me is that, if she doesn't pass, she could still work as a general nurse: change dressings, help bathe, etc. How many other people are doing just that and they're showing up for work hung over? They aren't allowed to dispense drugs; however, they have access. That's scary. Without a change in her attitude, I have little hope for her as well as her child. That's why I'm disappointed w/ the judge's ruling in just giving her probation.
