The bar was classic chintz. The old bartender wore a white apron and was slow, but attentive. The crowd was a mix of hookers, dealers, gamblers, cabbies, crooks, drifters, junkies, downtown workers and anything else that crawled in.

The air was always heavy with cigarette smoke, coming mostly from the the multable smokes burning in the ashtrays. The old funky bathrooms were in the basement and you had to be on your guard.

Fights and arguments were common and the cops usually took care of things since the bartender really didn't give a fark.

Regulars had their special spots at the bar, though no on really cared who was who.

The girls tried to get you to go upstairs, but we knew better, for our own health.

Hunched over a drink with a smoke was the common theme.

It was a place to go. It can never be re-created.

I've never been in there, so it must be just you two whites from the burbs that go in there and look at each other and think to yourself that the other must be a hooker, a dealers, a gambler, a crook, a drifter, or a junkie that just crawled in.
I'm glad you 2 got to meet each other on here, but I wish you 2 could stay out of my city and stay in the burbs where you belong. We don't like your trashy type in our city.
Talking out of your butt again I see. When I use to stop in there I lived on N.Goodman and Rocket St.,not in the burbs.See a person could live in the city back then and didn't have to worry about the ghetto trash stabbing, shooting or raping them.Another city bites the dust thanks to the ghetto scum.Stay out of the burbs,we don't want our houses to look like the slums in the city.Just saying.

I bet if you picked out a few city house that looked slummy and checked out who owns them, you might find out that those ones are owned by whites who live in the burbs.?

I worked late downtown in the hospitality business, so many of us would hit a variety of joints, including the Cadillac and the after-hours clubs. The Cadillac was mostly tame if you minded your own business. Cigarette machine and juke box in the back room. The lighting was dim. I only drank beer from the bottle, never trusted how clean those glasses were.

The good ole days.

See there you go again assuming that I am Nickbo, and again you would be wrong as usual, but that's par for the course for an idiot like you.

YOU DON'T HAVE TO GO THERE BARNFART: YOU CAN SMELL THE HOTEL AND THE VAGABONDS THAT FREQUENT IT FROM MILES AWAY. THEY HAVE THE NERVE TO USE THAT AS A WELFARE HOTEL TO PUT THOSE VAGABONDS IN FOR EMERGENCY HOUSING.
IF A PERSON WERE TO CONSIDER THAT A PLACE TO GO IN AN EMERGENCY, I PERSONALLY WOULD MUCH RATHER SHARE THE SEWARD SYSTEM WITH THE RATS. IT'S CLEANER AND SAFER!
CLOSE THE CADILAC HOTEL FOR SANITARY REASONS. EVERYBODY LIVING THERE STINKS! THE CADILAC HOTEL IS WHERE THEY PAROLED ARTHUR SHAWCROSS TO AND HE KILLED 11 WOMEN. CLOSE IT AND BURN IT DOWN TO GET THE STENCH OUT OF IT IS WHAT THEY NEED TO DO WITH IT. YUK. TRANSIENTS ALL THE WAY! THE WORST OF THE WORST.

I stayed there often, for weeks at the time, went to the Friden Calculating and Commercial Control company school in the early sixties.
The restaurant was primo. At times there were some 100 students.
The rooms were trashy already. The bar had the same afterhours regulars, no place for us to sit.
We kept booze in our rooms, the cleaning ladies would help themselfs and ad water so we wouldnot know. We did. Several rooms had weekend long walk-in poker games.Good and bad times. The aera was safe and neat, no crime then. An underground parking lot was being blasted.

Lots of Needles and stems , crazies and transient's .

I was making crazy $, because no one would do the work there .. 300.00 a day for 6 hours ...

Some of my most happy and definately most productive working years were at the Cadillac Hotel. Good times for sure and so convenient.
I would meet clients in the bar and take the up stairs to my office. Productvity and turn around times were great in my younger years.
Oh the memories....& I so miss working with Caprice. We were quite the team.
