I graduated from that school 3 years ago. To the people saying that homosexuality is "sick..."
A psychological study in the '90s found that when homophobes watched gay porn, their penile circumference grew more on average than that of an admittedly straight man. With homosexuals as the control, it seems that around 80% homophobes are actually closet homosexuals.

My point being -- you aren't born with the ability to control your sexual desires. I'm straight, but I'm completely for gay rights. Being against it is complete bigotry.

To summarize: McQuaid High School, run by Jesuits, and sold to parents as a place to turn your boys into men with a strong Catholic background, now openly condones homosexuality, and the attendant lifestyle.

I find this completely unacceptable, and understand why parents are rethinking the expensive McQuaid "experience".

The principal made a huge tactical error, which will cost the school prestige and enrollment in the future. Parents will push back by not sending younger brothers there. For the same prices there are other excellent private school choices locally.

The two young men could have easily both gone stag and hooked up there or after. I commend them for being honest and forthright. Kudos to them. To those that it bothers so much, like BIG SINGLE...not quite sure why you are taking this so damn personal. HHHHmmmmmmmm.....

Do you really think parents are going to start pulling their kids out of Mcquaid because of this? I doubt that will happen. You might get a few, but I don't think you will see an exodus. Same for not sending kids there, I doubt this will affect their admissions. It's one of the best schools in the area and everyone knows that.

As far as not sending students to schools where this type of situation occurs, I guess the parents better not send their kids to Harvard, or any other top college in the country, because I'm sure there's gays at all those schools too and I'm sure they're out.

It's not the 1950s anymore, society has changed, like it or not. Most people find homoohobia as distasteful as racism. It's where the mainstream is at.

While I appreciate what you are saying, I do think McQuaid parents will respond negatively to this. Conservative Catholic parents take a radically different view of homosexuality - and are certainly not as liberal as the general population.

This is a slippery slope for the school to take - and it may impact future enrollment.

As for better schools, Brighton and Pittsford are both highly rated, as well as Harley and Allendale-Columbia. There are some great choices other than McQuaid.

Not all parents of McQuaid students are conservative. I would bet that it is less than 50%. If you live in a suburb or in the city and aren't thrilled with the school district in which you reside, it is a viable option. Especially if you have the money. There are many self-proclaimed catholics who don't agree with everything the church stands for. Just food for thought...probably everyone knows someone who is gay or lesbian. Friends, sisters, brothers, cousins, nieces, nephews, in-laws, former classmates, coworkers, EX boyfriends and girlfriends, etc. etc. The more people who come out of the closet, the more it will be accepted. Maybe not by everyone. What is? But it is getting there.

Bingo

I love the way Bob Loonsbery always trashes Gay's and there life styles yet I know several very happy gay couples who have been together longer than all three of Bob's marriages put together.

The more people that come out of the closet, the more that will be accepted? It's not logarithmic. I don't believe the sheer numbers will promote greater acceptance.

Sure, we had an annoying, swishy guy on our floor in undergrad school, and I have been exposed to gay colleagues professionally (even when I didn't want to know). In fact, one is a pediatrician.

I still can't accept it as normal or understand their affliction.

I think that what people fear most about gays is that if they were allowed federal marraige rights, that Social Security would be completely obsolete! When gay/lesbian couples who have been together for 20+ years or more have one die, they get NOTHING!!!! Doesn't matter if the person was the bread winner, worked forever, paid endless taxes, they get NOTHING! Yet they have paid into the system (which is THEIR OWN MONEY AND PART EMPLOYERS MONEY) all their working lives...but the living "spouse" gets NOTHING!!!!! I think gays and lesbians should be EXEMPT from having to contribute to Social Security. Just a thought.

A Catholic gay ball? Who knew? Just as gay as a female soccer player. Lets just post their photos here to show the world how gay they are. Their images soon will be flying around the social media sites when they stroll through the door.

Disagree about homosexuality being a choice. Maybe for some, but for most...they're born that way. It's who they are.
Whether they act on it, that's a choice isn't it? Just like heterosexuals choose to act on their sexuality.
How they reconcile whay they do with their religion, it's up to them.
WHAT ABOUT THE WOMEN WHO HAVE BEEN IN HETEROSEXUAL RELATIONSHIPS HAD CHILDREN BEEN LESBIAN CAME BACK TO A MAN AND GO BACK AND FORTH? HOMOSEXUALITY IS A LIFESTYLE AND A CHOICE. IF YOU ARE BORN A BOY YOU ARE A BOY. IF YOU ARE BORN A GIRL, YOU ARE A GIRL. STOP PUSHING THE LIE ON OTHERS. THAT'S YOUR DENIAL OF IDENTITY.

PARENTS ARE CRAZY AS HELL TO ACCEPT THIS FROM THEIR CHILDREN. A LIE BY ANY OTHER NAME IS STILL A LIE. THAT'S WHAT HAPPENS WHEN YOU HIDE DIRTY SECRETS OF INCEST AND RAPE IN THE FAMILY. NOW THE KID IS GAY FROM BEING RAPED BY SOME NUTTY ASS ADULT WHO SHOULD BE UNDER THE JAIL, AND BECAUSE THE FAMILIES ARE ASHAMED, THEY'D RATHER HIDE THE CRIME OF SEXUAL ASSAULT ON THE CHILD AND CLAIM THE KID WAS BORN THAT WAY. NO, SOMEBODY DID SOMETHING TO THAT CHILD.

Wait a minute. Hold everything.

It's his opinion, no matter how much you disagree with it. He hasn't gone after you for your liberal tilt (personally)... and I think your efforts to educate him are futile. You have to pick your battles, and that is one you're not going to influence. We know I'm against, he's clearly against and you're for.

I think you're wrong, he is positive you're nuts, but we have both considered your opinion.

Listen, the gays I know have explained that they have no doubt they were born that way. They didn't choose it, they were made that way. It wasn't a choice for them. Are there folks who choose it ? I'm sure there are, there are always exceptions. As far as the comment about " if you are born a boy, you are a boy", what does that mean? Gender and sexuality are two separate things man.

So, if a parent has a homosexual kid, the behavior shouldn't be accepted? You're right, it would be much better to make the kid be something he/ she is not. You know, live a lie. I'm sure that would make the kid real happy and stable! Better yet, why not just ostracise the kid? Hatred is always a great solution too! Come on, thesr are not solutions. There is no solution, people are who they are.

Nobody has the right to say McQuaid should or should not allow this to happen. It is a private institution only they they alone should have a say.If you are against their decision you are not forced to attend, if on the other hand they decided to not allow it you have no right to force them to change based on descrimination you are not forced to attend. It is pretty disgusting how in the land of the free a private place open to the public has to be subject to the ideological whims of any group.I do find odd they chose to allow them to go based on the fact the behaviour is against the biblical teachings they claim to value, but I do not care either it is not my concern.Plus I am pretty sure all the homosexuality and pedophilia in the priesthood and the following cover up is also against those same values.

The headline says it all:

"What's Next?"

Let's guess:

Maybe they'll park the car somewhere and....

Maybe they'll go to a party and ...

Maybe a night on the town and ...

One final question:

Who will wear the corsage?

I'm sure that will go over real swell at an all-boys Catholic school.

Just imagine the proud parents taking the date pickup pictures... and his classmates/dates during a slow dance, with all eyes on the beaming couple. But no progesterone/estrogen combo pill on Saturday (a/k/a emergency contraception).

It should have been an easy situation to solve, the principal should have pushed back and said "No, unacceptable".
