Does anyone else have any issues with there doctors being almost afraid to prescribe pain medications? I have been dealing with an issue for literally 2 years now and have been treated for it for 1.5 years (took me six months to go) I was to the point where I was having crying spells durring the day and having to use crutches. When I asked about a medication to help me through this I was told I was at risk for dependence? I have never done drugs or been arrested for anything. Never been in anysort of rehab center (I don't do drugs) I tried smoking pot once when I was in 8th grade did not like it and that was that. So maybe someone else out there knows what he meant by at risk. I feel like I am needlessly suffering when I know they make meds that would atleast temporarily take the pain away until we find a permanent solution. I feel like all the drug seekers are ruining it for everyone who are legit. Does anyone else agree or disagree with me on this?

No to be flippant, but you need another MD to evaluate your injury and suggest medications to ameliorate the pain. Explain to your current MD that you are in pain, and if he/she won't address it, you will go elsewhere for better care. Don't ever be afraid to talk to your doctor directly, and let him know what's on your mind. He works for you.

Second idea - ask to be referred to a pain specialist, an MD that deals with pain exclusively. They are at Strong - or a larger hospital.

Third idea - if you asked for a specific med, like Oxycontin by name, you threw up a red flag.

Your MD is not properly addressing your pain issues, and can easily monitor your intake and reaction/dependency.

Find a doctor that is sensitive to all your issues.

It is all over the map. From docs that won't prescribe to the other end of the spectrum -- an Rx for a case of Schedule A drugs. Most reasonable MDs will take into consideration the patient's genuine pain (and there are exam tricks to determine if the patient is faking the discomfort) and treat it.

Maybe the doc in question had is DEA number revoked, and can't prescribe opiates. It happens.

One last important item.

Check out your MD for licensing or misconduct issues, both past and current (pending). Maintained by the State of NY DOH on all licensed physicians, and available at:

http://www.health.ny.gov/professionals/doctor...

It will tell you if he/she has a restricted license, needs supervision by another MD to practice - and if an action has been taken, will provide exactly what transpired (graphically) in the complaint. Extremely detailed data.

It should be the first place you go when you have selected a new MD, prior to your first office visit. You should always know who you are dealing with, and permitting to make health recommendations.

If the MD doesn't show up -- that's good.

Later for all those preliminaries, just go behind Greece Ridge Mall in those apartments. you can get whatever pain relief you need.

Suburbs got it all.

This whole thread is a farce. Anyone knows doctors do not give refills on narcotic meds. sheesh.
