I don't know what Rochester received from the Spiderman shooting, but whatever type of loot they got, they should put it into downtown.

Bring back Wegmans, and the Wegmans headquarters should come downtown as well. A casino/mall. Debella's sub shop, Salvotores, and many local eateries. Also, bring the Buffalo Bills store somewhere in the shopping centere.

I am such a Rochesterian!

I absolutely agree. They are building so many apts, lofts and townhouses which is great but they now need more fast food shops, grocery store, movie theater. Things to get downtown to stay open later with normal people that are spending money.

I agree with everything except the casino and Buffalo Bills shop. Why would we want that? That's like opening up a Miami Dolphins store in Richmond, VA. Makes no sense.

Last time I heard, Rochester IS a HUGE Buffalo Bills city. The Bills store was in Eastview Mall and Pittsford Plaza before that. Why do you think the training camp is at Fisher?

Wegmans should go wherever Wegmans wants to go. What should someone pass a resolution demanding Wegmans open a grocery store Downtown? There is no Downtown Grocery store because it cannot really work there.

Sad to say a casino is the right direction. It is one of the few businesses that can handle the N.Y. tax burden for one. Rochester needs to admit it is an old industrial boomtown that has lost it's identity as a manufacturing and commerce hub, and that identity is never going to be regained. The only thing really it can do to get out of area dollars (ideally out of state) is step up to the plate on the idea of becoming a rich tourist party place. Some upstate town is going to make the leap and Rochester is honestly the best place for it. If only our leaders would man-up and stop trying to preserve a Rochester that has not existed for a long time.

They should have pulled the trigger on a casino years ago. It's something that would draw people from long distances away and could be a big step forward economically. Had they done this when the fast ferry was around I think some people might have actually come over from T.O., not to mention the whole crime argument against a casino being built is a joke

I agree. Rochester needs to stop being so conservative and think big. We're constantly in Buffalo's shadow, and at times get passed over for Syracuse. Rochester needs something different to set themselves apart from their upstate peers. Something that can't be duplicated for inspired.

I'm telling yall sonner or later an Upstate town or city is going to open a casino. The first one to do it is going to be the winner from it. If Rochester waits to be second or third it will not work for us. N.Y. can only support one gambling city. There is to much competition from the Reservations to allow more than one city to get in the game. Another reason Rochester is the best city for it is Syracuse and Buffalo are really close to Indian casinos already. We would have less competition from the reservations than they would.

That's interesting. I never knew all that. I say go Rochester! The best place for a casino would be thst Midtown frame. But of course, that's going to be apartments.

Downtown needs a real black democrat mayor.
Not a fat white guy who use to be a republican and not a tall "handsome" thin white guy who also use to be a republican.

We got to wake up to the fact that the manufacturing is not going to come back ever. At least not to enough to support such a large area

Gates is already working on this and has a great location at the old Kodak Elmgrove site.
People will have great access from every direction and will not have to set foot in the city. Just look out the window and frown as they pass thru depending on driving location.
Win, win location no matter what.
Putting it in the in any of the suburbs is a bad idea. It would be bad for both the city and the suburb town it was in. The small towns can't really handle the infrastructure and don't have the space or planning to really turn it in to a high class type of destination. The city would equally suffer by having people drawn even more away from it. Encouraging even further deterioration of the city. Downtown is close enough to the airport already has hotels and an active nightlife center.Along with concert venues and playhouses. A casino or two could really allow for that potential that is already there become something. It would give those in the city who are hard working jobs and encourage more people to be drawn to living in the city.
