Municipalities like Spencerport, Fairport, Angelica, etc. (there are 47 of them throughout NYS and 4 Co-Ops) can charge such low prices because they are supplied with some of the cheapest power (Hydro) in the country - coming from the New York Power Authority's Niagara Power Plant.

Confirmed Saturday appointment which is to be paid for by my tenant. RG&E confirms a 20 minute call ahead and takes the tenant's phone number. Saturday comes and goes with no visit or call from RG&E. Tenant calls RGE and representative reads the "notes" that turn on could not be done because RG&E knocked on tenant's door and their neighbor's door 3 times each. The best part is that RG&E has the keys to this location to read the meters every other month so why don't they have them for the Saturday turn on? Monday the Tenant calls RG&E and they tell her she has to pay for this Saturday attempted turn on and they can not send anyone out again for another 10 days. She asks to speak to a supervisor, of course they are on another call but is told they will call her back after they get off the phone (not to mention the absolutely rude representative which is the norm in RGE's customer service center). No call from the Supervisor. Tenant calls again, demands a supervisor, gets one who then proceeds to give her phone numbers to the walk in offices to find out herself why they didn't have keys. Really????!!!! This Supervisor explains that all call backs from a Supervisor are made within 24 hours so the rude representative lied to the Tenant telling her they would call her when they got off the phone. Tenant asks to speak to the Supervisor of Customer Service direct Supervisor and is told they are in a meeting, go figure, would we expect anything else than this respone? No resolution to get power on for a tenant who was clearly doing everything they were instructed to do. Maybe the Saturday employee made a mistake, forgot the keys, was at the wrong apartment, took a long lunch, etc. But there is not priority for RG&E to make matters right, they have no obligation because they have us all without choice of another company for service. Worst customer service ever! I often call for my business and within the first sentence hang up to get another representative because 50% of the time are rude and won't listen or try to understand your needs. I feel for those employees at RG&E who actually are great customer service reperesentatives (as I have encountered a few). Saddest part is the employees in the walk-in office I go to express their frustrations in these matters conducted by their own employer. I loathe having to contact this company and avoid it at all costs.

I've had it with RG&E and their foreign ownership. Just tried to report a power outage on our road after a lightening strike. A SIMPLE outage report...right? Hell no! What's your phone number, your account number. Really? Since when is all that garbage needed to report the power out on the road? What a joke. Since when do we need to give a life story to reoport a roadwide power outage? No explaination will work with this one folks. Sorry.

Top it off, my parents live in Florida. We compared bills last month. My house is UNDER 1000sq ft, their house in Florida, about 1300. They ran air ALL MONTH. I have no air. They have 2 fridges and a freezer. I have 1 fridge (2 yrs old). They usually have lights on in the kitchen, office and den. I usually have 1 livingroom light on. They can have one TV going during the day, and sometimes 2 at night. I have 1. Their home is ALL ELECTRIC. Mine is NOT!!! Yet, when bills were compared, with all they run INCLUDING AIR CONDITIONING, their FPL bill was THE SAME AS MINE.

RG&E. STILL A RIP OFF......STILL CUSTOMER UNFRIENDLY! I have no use for this company.

Oh, and I neglected to mention that as of January 2012, it was announced that FPL customers would see their rate GO DOWN.....which they have. My parent's bill went DOWN an average of $5-$6 a month. Why RG&E, do yours do nothing but go up and up.....?

And then every time that happened, it was at least 1 week to restore the power...
My parents have FPL. Better service and cheaper prices. And after "Charlie" hit Punta Gorda (where they are), with all the devistation, their power was restored faster than mine has ever been after an ice storm here. And, their bills are ALWAYS cheaper than mine, and I have a tiny house, no air and am not all electric, while they are. Even in hot months when they need to run air and I run nothing but a fan, their electric bill is STILL cheaper than mine. Their house is quite a bit bigger than mine as well.

I'd gladly trade FPL for RG&E any time.

This is completely false. If RGE has meter reads the customer will be charged for what they use. The system used to estimate does use info from last year to try to accurately calculate this years usage however this method is not employed if a read is given by the customer or obtained by the company.
Also, the budget is based on 12 months of usage. They take all the usage for the year, add it up, divide by 12, and there's your budget and it's pretty accurate unless there is usage or weather disparity. The budget is reviewed every three months. If a customer is payign too much it can be decreased and if they are payign too little it can be increased. Lastly, any difference between what is used and waht is paid for, credit or charges, comes forward on the 12th bill so everyone is even at that time and the budget is recalculated at that time. Throughout the year there is a budget summary so if the customer sees disparity and feels the budget is too high or low the budget is up for discussion and even negotiation.

Get your facts straight. HAs the delivery charge gone up over the past three years? Yes it has, marginally. The last time RGE got a raise in delivery rates was 1994. As for the supply rates those are not profit bearing for RGE at all. The gas and electric are sold at cost and not marked up at all. Higher electric and gas supply rates don't add money to RGE coffers at all.

Why are we being held hostage by one Gas and Electric supplier in the Greater Rochester New York area. In a free market place why can't we chose from other companies like NYSEG and NYNEX or National Grid? Aren't monopolies illegal?

First off,

Budget or not the nice RGE meter reader comes and reads my meters every other month. On my bill there is a budget billing summary and it tells me how far ahead or behind I am on my budget. If my budget is too high or too low RGE has adjusted it for me automatically and if at the end of my budget year I have paid too little or too much they even up with me. I called one time to ask about my budget balance and they adjusted it on the spot! They told me they look at to every three months.

Secondly my neighbor signed up for Ambit and you charged him almost 3 TIMES THE AMOUNT rge charged me for my electrcity and the gas prices were almost as bad.

RG&E's budget is an awesome way for them to screw you out of hundreds of dollars. Screw RG&E they can scam you out of all the money they want because they are the only energy provider in the area. Your service is shit and your customer service is even shittier. They make the budget sound like a great way to cut down on the costs of your gas & electric but it really is a way for them to make even more money off you. Don't make the same mistake I did... STAY AWAY FROM THE BUDGET!!!!!!!!!!

Budgeted for 7 years. Always reasonble @$125 or currently (until last month,$115 per month). The March 19th bill is all of a sudden $165, no explanation. I called RG+E, they double-spoke their way around it. However, I had a CREDIT of $30 last month and will have a CREDIT of $78 after paying this 3/19/14 bill. RG+E told me they raised my budget, admitting I was not notified. As of June 2014 my account will be adjusted, new budget will be calcualted. It appears I will not have any extra payment to make, in fact, my credit will continue to increase by 6/1/14! I may not have to pay a bill for 6/14. Little consolation since I do not trust them. The kicker: my RG+E useage for March was a combined $70.60 and Energetix delivery charges of $52. That's $122.60 for a very cold March 2014. The rep told me they unilateraly went back to 4/13 and re-averaged my bills and upped my RG+E budget without my knowledge. Why is this done NOW when the Budget adjust is less than 2 months away? I'll tell you: it is a money grab, but I have a CREDIT of $78 and growing? The rep stated wrong VAGUE info on the temperatures per winter months. I checked with National Weather Service. The Company gas read consistently DOUBLES my gas bill. Half of my 1 story house is shut off! I use a heater to fool the thermostat in the other half which greatly reduces the 3 year old 95% efficient furnace useage! The company reads are corrupt and deception abounds! Check your bills. Dont let RG+E get away with these practices.

RG&E is the biggest scammer in Rochester . Every spring we had bills so HIGH from Winter that we could barely pay the minimum to keep it on . many times we were shut off . I couldn't get the money in time .

They are Ruthless and corrupt . They pump up the amps at night and make your bill higher . Anything plugged in will draw more ampage during the night .

RG&E. They do this scam technique of estimating the gas and electric when they say they can't get to the meter or they just don't read it. They estimate high of course and if you don't pay the amount they send a notice of cancellation. I'm on disability and have very little money to play with. I'm sure I'm not the only person they run this scam with and they need to be investigated. They have total control in this city for power and it needs to stop. They also told me that when they estimate high they go by the year before bills. I wasn't living here the year before I turned it on in my name so the person could have kept the heat on 85 or 90 and I'm paying for it in there high estimation. I can only surmise that they're taking the high estimate money from everyone they do it to and collect the interest while in the bank to make them richer while it's making people poorer.
