Berkely Brean did a brilliant job of telling this story on WCMF's Break Room this morning.
In a nutshell:
--Fairport Cop hires a contractor to install a garage door and other related things.
~
--Contractor installs the door but at the end of the job the contractor had to tend to family issues and didn't install the weather stripping and some ornamental items.
~
--Contractor promises to install other items as soon as his family issues are handled.
~
--Provenzano takes contractor to small claims in Perinton court.
~
--Provenzano produces an estimate on a letterhead for over $700 for remaining work.
~
--Contractor and Judge question the exorbitant amount for weather stripping and ornaments and call in the company on the letterhead to question them.
~
--Company on the letterhead denies ever writing that estimate or giving the OK for anyone to use their letterhead.
~
--Phil Provenzano's brother admits to falsely creating the estimate on the letterhead and states 'It's done all the time'.
~
--Judge decides for the contractor and writes a scathing description of Provenzano's false evidence.
~
--Provensano shoulder checks the contractor in the hallway and contractor tells the judge he is being harassed and is advised to call authorities.
~
--The next day the contractor brings the judges decision to Provenzano's boss.
~
--Crap hits fan.
~
--15 people get off from DWI because Provenzano is not a reliable witness to his own arrests.
I just hate dirty cops. I specially hate Fairport dirty cops. They should stick to threatening children on skateboards.

80% of cops ruin it for the rest of them.

I agree that bad cops need to go. They put the few good ones at un-necessary risk.

I regularly follow the police injustice news feeds, and there seems to be a trend for police departments to stop the cover-ups and start cleaning their own ranks.
Maybe its because the police unions are losing ground?

Yeah, I noticed that trend as well. I attributed it to the increase of collateral prosecution in these cases where supervisors are held responsible. Nobody wants to stick their neck out for a rogue cop anymore. Merritt Rahn is a perfect example. If he played it by the book he would be doing just fine.

correction:

--Provenzano takes contractor to small claims in Perinton court.

Should read

--Contractor takes Provenzano to small claims in Perinton court and Provenzano counter sues.

Well as far as Merritt goes there are some misinformations out there about him, like him hiring Pignato. First only the town supervisor can hire and secondly, I'll tell you who got him hired at Greece PD and it wasn't Merritt or the town supervisor. Wait until you hear this one and then you will see where the dirty deeds are done. I'll wait for a few comments then I'll break it to you.

In a nut shell:

The overhead door company filed suit first. Phil countered and that counter is why Phil produced a fraudent document in an attempt to prove his case. That document was NOT an estimate but more of a paid bill for services. That document was created by Cory, his brother.
As for the overhead door company's owner, his Mom was gravely ill with cancer for eight months. By caring for her between 2 other siblings 24 hours per day, 7 days per week (all the while caring for her needs during the night) will burn you out in one night. Any parent will wish their own will care for them in such a dedicated loyal way as that family did.
The alleged contractor who was thought to create that document did stand up but only after the suboena was given. That contractor is well known to be honest no matter who he's dealing with.
The clincher is Phil hitting the overhead door owner's shoulder with his own right outside the judges courtroom! Owner files a report and Phil was forced out. PERMANENTLY no matter where he goes. DA will never contact him for any ongoing case.

In Rahns words from his parole hearing transcripts, Rahn pushed the background check for Pignato through after Pignato was hired. Rahn instructed that the background check was to be 'positive'. More people should have also went down for this.

Yeah that's true but Rahn is not the one that got him hired. I'm telling you for a fact. And the chief of police does not hire for Greece, the town supervisor does. That's only the background check. Pignato had another HUGE backer outside of the police department who influenced his hiring for financial reasons.

I definitely agree with you so far. This was a rock and a hard place for Rahn.

Ok, well Pignato had other legal problems throughout his career snd owed a lot of money to his attorney. His attorney was parinello. Parinello wanted his money so he went Rahn and told him the situation. Thats where Rahn got involved with the background check. Rahn told the background investigator to make Pignatos background to appear positive. Pignato gets hired, Parinello keeps getting his money, up until Pignato went to prison. So Parinello had a big part in the hiring.

What was Rahn's motivation to do Parinello's bidding?

Rahn is friends with Parinello and it was all about money, money for Parinello. As long as Pignato was employed, Parinello would get the money pignato owed him.

Here is the deal. All of you are idiotic if you think a cop would bring into court " Manufactured" documents. This is a sad time for our country and this is what is newsworthy. I know this cop and his family and this is not even close to being the full truth from all parties involved. Think long and hard about your own lives before you judge another.
