BUFFALO, NY - A Buffalo Police officer was shot and wounded while pursuing a suspect through a backyard on Eldon Road near Eggert Road, Saturday at about 5 p.m.

Buffalo Police spokesperson Mike DeGeorge said that the suspect is in custody. He's a West Seneca man in his early 20s. He's being charged with assault and criminal possession of a weapon.

The officer and the suspect were taken to ECMC with non-life-threatening injuries, DeGeorge said. The officer was shot in the leg. No names have been released at this time and it's not known why the officer was chasing the suspect in the first place.

He's obviously black. He had a gun, was waiting for the bus, and his momma spelled Jeffrey wrong.

West Seneca is 0.4% black. What are the odds?

I'm guessing it's a black guy from this "Thomas" family, also of West Seneca.
