god this guy needs to be put in jail for a long time. to shoot a kid in the back for any other reason but defending yourself is so freaking wrong. but he shot the kid in the back in the back, it sounds like this guy was on a blood rage. he was going to kill someone regardless of what he was doing. this guy needs to be caged for what he did

I think the parents of the teenager should be charged with endangering the welfare of a child by not knowing where their son was in the middle of the night. This kids is just one of many who rob us while we are sleeping. If he was such a "good" kid he wouldn't be getting into trouble in the middle of the night. If you play with fire you might get burned. If we had more consequences for their actions in place maybe idiots, like this kid, would think twice before committing a crime.

I am sure you would agree even if it was your only son, and he was unarmed not thinking and being irresponsible which he probably would have grown out of.

And I am sure you being a proud parent and all if it was one of your children that snuck out and got shot and killed by being irresponsible, You would be on the front page of the news saying I like my kid but he or she deserved it when you play with fire sometime you will get burned. I hope the killer of my child goes free because he was justified shooting my unarmed child.

OMG - here we go again.....

Kids make mistakes....for Heavens sake - being out in middle of night or petty crime is NOT reason for lethal punishment.

Would some of you say the same thing if this was your kid who made a bad choice ???

For those of you who are so blessed to have children who never would push the limit - wow, i envy you.

All I can hope is that with the mistakes my kids make, they learn from the consequences that we as parents are able to follow thru.

My i'll be damned if i agree that this kid faced the punishment he deserved. Being shot for breaking into cars is NOT justified.

If he broke into a home - different story.

So, easy to make comments sitting behind a computer when you have perfect kids.

How about letting them steal everything they could over a two year period. Or placing a knife to the throat of another child. Does that give an idea of the mentality of this kid. Gee, do you think someone like that would charge at someone stopping them from stealing.

i am bored: This isn't about a kid "pushing the limit" because if it is then I say this boy had "limits" that were much too broad!
Broad limits = bad parenting.

Well apparently not the chicken @ss Roderick Scott he was like an ignorant little boy wanting to use his shiny new gun. He should have kept his ignorant @ss in his house. But he was too interested in shooting a kid while he held his hand up trying to protect himself from being shot because Roderick was pointing his gun at him and then cowardly finished him off with a shot to the back.

I dont think the kid deserves to be dead...but there are consequenses for your actions and if he wasnt breaking in to cars he would be alive...Mr Scott should be free.

hooting a kid in the back...means the kid was running away. He was no threat to Mr. Scott. He was not breaking into Mr. Scott's car.

First off - I commend mr scott on trying to protect his neighbors property. I would have done the same thing. But As a responsible gun owner he should have know NY state law (as lame as this state is ) YOu have a duty to retreat every time except in your own home. This means even if someone has a knife and comes at you, if you have a means of escape you must take that avenue and may only use lethal force when you can't escape and your life is in danger. I am sure as an adult he was capable of knowing the facts. He will have his day and court and will be judged by his peers. But it does make one wonder if those kids were out but not breaking into cars he may still be alive - in a way he helped create the confrontation by his actions.

mr. slim pickens, please calm down.who can say that the person was a kid.when its dark at night and its several people.not to mention you're just waking up.would you stop a thief and ask for i.d.?mr. Scott did not go out with his gun just to shoot it for fun purposes,no threat...no reaction or need for defense.stop looking at the results.any human would have been confused and defensive.
