I agree. And before yall get started; this is not just a city thing! I live in North Chili, and the kids come outside as early as 8:30am and AFTER 10pm. Poor/No supervision. She should have been home, under the covers!

I feel the same....I feel so bad for her and her family...but why was she outside at that time? My oldest is almost 13 and he's not allowed to wander around at 10pm... This could have been avoided....so sad....

While it is concerning that she was out at 10, we don't know if she was allowed to run to the drug store with other kids. So, let's not rush to judgment. A young girl is dead.

Regardless to whether she had two parents in the home, if it was late outside..this is someone's child. The mother will never be able to embrace this child again. Prayers go out to the mother, and family of this little innocent girl

i have repeaetly asked RPD to do trafiic enforcement and it has fallen on deaf ears. Rocket Street near culver is a cut through with people going over 40 -50 in a 30 MPH zone. one day a lady skidded 30 feet to avoid a bicyclist that had fallen in road, missed by inches. i called the useless311 only to hear the Sgt. say "we dont have enough man power". So city council ,Mr Mayor and Police Chief, how many more trafic deaths like this are you going to allow before you strat enforcement of the roads? By the way ,Thank you city meter meaids for my parking ticket in front of house while contractors were here working and in and out of driveway. yes ,thicketing my car was important ,the the bangers driving 50 in a 30 with jungle beat you can hear a mile away is ok. News 10nbcc,pass this to the above mentioned in charge. i'll be happy to address them each separately or collectively.

you're absolutely right. and those dopes want to pee away millions on a project for the benefit of a VERY few. what a joke. try North St and Scio and Davis and Ontario; fix that mess, then tell me we have extra funding for a freaking monstrosity that rivals the blue elephant recycling center.

Oh, sorry. The TV news last night reported that the kids had been to the Rite Aid there and were running across the street when she was hit. My point actually was no one knows the circumstances of her being there at 10 so perhaps its best not to judge.

When we are downtown, hundreds of kids of that age are riding their bikes around downtown late at night. It seems to be a cultural thing. The older siblings are put in charge of watching over the younger siblings, and yes, they seem to run the streets into the early hours, and the city streets is their personal playground. In my neighborhood, in the summer you have some young kids that are out late-mostly playing (LOUDLY)in their front yards. Since I have to work early, I DO wish they would go to bed. LOL.

This is so sad. Even though she shouldn't have been out without supervision, you have to feel sorry for her family.

This is a such a sad story! Regardless if she was out to go to the drug store, or what not, any mother, let alone parent with children being thier #1 priority would NOT allow their child to go to the store by themselves or with friends at age 9 and at 10pm on Main St in downtown Rochester! That is absurd! Turn on the news people, read a paper, bad things are happening all over Rochester, including surrounding suburbs! At 10pm, children should be in the house! For the nay sayers here, yes it is sad that this mother lost her child, but she made the choice to allow her child outside at 10pm. People learn everyday just how short life is, maybe it is time they start acting like adults/parents and taking care of their responibilies.

OK, my 9yr old is in bed by 9:30 on the weekends, needless to say in my house by 8:00pm at the latest--- if playing with neighbor kids one house over. Running around at 10:00pm WHY ? Crossing a busy street too? By herself Why ? Maybe other parents will learn from this sad situation.
