<quoted text>I don't blame you on that.My family has picked them for generations. I grew up identifying them and have even gone to a couple of classes about them by the Cornell Cooperative extension. Identifying morels from there poisonous look alikes is fairly easy. This is also true for puffballs. Just don't make assumptions learn from qualified individuals. Not only are morels good for your table they are quite profitable to sell to buyers as the are not grown commercially. If you buy them from a store they very likely came from somewhere near you. Picked by a hillbilly, redneck or hippie.
I did some research on them after you mentioned them. They are expensive to buy!$35 a pound! Wow! I also found how to identify the difference between them and false morels. Yeah. They seem easy to tell them apart. But still...unless I went with someone who knows...I'd be petrified to eat one. lol

Thats the price before they are dried.Being they are 85-90% water a pound of fresh morels is not many at all.

To anyone out there.
DO NOT PICK ANY MUSHROOMS UNLESS TAUGHT BY SOMEONE WHO KNOWS WHAT THEY ARE TALKING ABOUT.If you want to pick morels go ahead just have them checked at a Cornell Cooperative Extension before you eat them. They will be happy to help you.

I highly recomend The Audubon Society Field Guide Series "Mushrooms" we have faithfully used ours for fifteen or more years.
Ours has been all over the U.S and Canada.
That is a good start.I just don't recommend newbies to rely solely on a field guide without first hand experience with someone in the know.I would not want someone to get hurt based on something I said on an internet sight.

Good day to get 'em in the ground. Nice warm sun and were supposed to get some rain soon.

Didn't notice this until now.

I had to pull 4 of them that broke from the weight of the rain on top of the tarp I used that cold night. Stuck them in cups of water though, and they're doing great now. Was thinking about transplanting them when I get home.

I haven't put mine in yet. I am going to put 4 in barrels on my back patio and put the rest in a spot that gets a ton of sun. My regular garden area is now in a shaded spot because of a random tree that I decided to allow to continue to grow because it blocks out my neighbor. I like my neighbor, don't get me wrong, but she has two teen kids who are out there with their friends a lot and I like to be out there tanning, etc. They're respectful kids, but I like my privacy too.

That only applies to the North Country and he is only a friend of downstate. He rather concentrate on creating a San Fran of the east with his I Love Gay New York crap. What a work of art.
