I am guessing no one from Forbes works here in Rochester or lives here in Rochester.

Have you two ever even looked at property prices elsewhere? I bought a 2600 sq ft 6 bedroom home in Rochester - and my mortgage is LESS than what I paid for a 1000 sq ft 1 bedroom rental in New Jersey. Seriously, try to have at least a TINY bit of perspective before posting.

Property Value is NOT going up to compliment inflation, taxes are high, anything else you would like to add to your life story?

Seriously: and the salaries to go with those prestigious rents/leases/mortgages were just as bad. Rochester is also a lot smaller than many large cities in Jersey and many people work out of state (at least those of you that earn the big bucks). We have those huge mortgages here in Rochester too. You just have to look. Like $700,000 for a downtown 'apartment'/condo in the vicinity of the Rochester Club maybe. Seems they didn't get that part.

Funny you should say that, Toyota of Batavia (15 minutes from Bergen) has the same Toyota as The Rochester dealer for thousands less, but what do I know - I need to gain perspective. Being a life time resident and a frequent traveler I am blind to the fact and I should just believe what the media and forbes tell me.

NO S***. Rochester has the second highest home taxes in the COUNTRY...This place is the worst to live in and is a third world city...Forbes needs to send someone hear for a month. I promise Forbes that Rochester will be re-ranked as the worst place to live. Thems the facts!

taxes on a $100.000 house in lima are almost $4000, imagine what they are in mendon and pittsford. in n.c. they would be about 1/3 of that. high taxes, lousy weather, and a disfunctional govt. maybe it should be #380!!!!!!!

And all I see on CNN are child killers and mob hits on parents of 17 kids (most of them disabled) in Florida. That crap doesn't happen in Rochester, we just kill you for you sneakers or looking at you funny. Pick your poison.

Please tell what the ranking for the cheapest place is! Is it 1 or 100? 38 is about halfway between the two and can not be "one of the cheapest" due to its ranking! The headline is misleading.

Compared to the best 100 towns Rochester is over the top with high car insurance, bad schools, high taxes, high gasoline taxes, high unemployment, high crime rate. BUT CHEAP HOUSING. WOW.
Why do you think the city has lost over 10% of its population?

Can you say 38 out of 100...not sure that is in the top...CRIME RATE 74. Maybe that is why is has to be one of the cheapest places to live, cause no one can survive long enough here...Telling Story....

I guess they didn't take into account RG&E either, that alone would have killed that ranking!!!!!
