There seems to be a difference of interpretation as to what is meant by the proposed project details. The Mayor and channel 10 Reporters understand the project to include "low income" unites. The projects says mixed income unites and that is what Rachel Barnhart understands that or may not include low income unites. This also could be spin. Let's hope the City isn't trying to pull a fast one on the residents of Charlotte.
Pull a fast one?? Have you seen what lives is Charlotte? That you want to call residents. Other than River St., it one of the dumpiest neighborhoods in the city. A trailer park would be an improvement.

There isn't any interpretations to misunderstand. Any/all new construction that uses any government monies(state/city/county/or federal) has to include a percentage of low income housing, it is the law. Also every city, town or village must provide low income housing by law, it is called the Mt. Laurel Rule that started in Mt. Laurel NJ back in the '70's. So yes there will be low income housing included in the building project in Charlotte.

The condos will be owned. Will the townhouses be owned, rentals or both? I would never buy next to rental units. Especially low cost/subsidized.

Tell this to the media.
I don’t see “low-income” anywhere in this proposal. The developer makes reference to “affordable” units on the lower floors, similar to The Mills at High Falls. Affordable housing is not the same as low income housing. Rachel Barnhart.

The condos will also be subjected to the Mt .Laurel Rule(law) along with the townhouses, there is no way around it. I know that I would be ticked off if I paid $175k for my townhouse while the neighbor paid less than 1/4 of what I did because of all of the assistance from the taxpayers and the government. But no one ever said life is fair and every day it seems to get a bit worst for the middle class workers while getting better for the non workers and the rich.

Notwithstanding the Mt. Laurel Rule, you are exactly right. No one with a reasonable cash flow is going to buy an undefined property. If the developer wants to mix rent subsidized and owned properties, he's nuts (however, doubtful a developer is going to do this).

We seem to be arguing and speculating over a project that is not fully defined... or there's some subterfuge going on. With our new mayor involved, I'm betting on subterfuge or ignorance, with some stupidity thrown in.

Hope her rehab is going well. Maybe it will influence her otherwise bad decisions.

U of R's new project never said anything about low income housing either until someone from the media pushed the issue. I bet that until the same thing happens to this developer and he is pushed it will be hushed up. They have no choice dew they have to provide it whenever public monies are involved. You can find everything on the HUD website.

They never do. It's the third rail. Low income housing shouts thugs moving in, and incites everybody.

The upside is that the trauma center is down the street. Of course, it won't see any revenue.

As long as they build a police station right there to save time and gas. They should institute Judge Dredd style policing.

The UofR project had 10 affordable apartments built into the project the whole time. The City made it a requirement of their loan to the Developer....you and your media conspiracy theories.....geesh.

On the other flip side: The upper class housing will cancel the festivals and events at the beach because they won't want the riff-raff coming into their area. Remember how city hall put and end to the East End Festivals? Have another thug fight like last year and events are gone.

I didn't say there weren't any "affordable" apartments aka section 8 housing in the project from the start. I said it wasn't mention until the media saw the plans then it was made public. The city didn't make it a requirement, it is the law, neither the college or the city had any choice because of the public monies being used. FYI: I don't believe in conspiracies, I only believe what are facts and what I see with my own eyes, Good try at spinning the facts around, better luck next time.

This port project is not a surprise for those in the Charlotte area…people here have been very vocal, in numbers, about wants, needs, desires with these projects. What the surprise is: Mayor Warren saying she will listen & act on behalf of communities’ wants/needs then her actions of doing the opposite!

Warren announced yesterday that there are plenty of upper class citizen who want to live next to the water.
Monroe County had the highest exceedance rate of the daily maximum standard in 2012 (28%) of water quality.
New York rants 22 out of thirty states in water quality.
Flush the toilets at the beach and see bubbles in the lake.
Hope they enjoy swimming in GREEN SLIME.

Can we put up poles for the kids to dance and twerk? Maybe a platform where they can perform that dance that immitates violent rape. Maybe Lovely Warren will host a dance off competition.

Mayor Lovely said; "The people want this (project)." Oh, contraire, your Highness. Hundreds gathered at the Charlotte meeting for PUSH BACK. The project doesn't fit the area architecturally. It's an expensive monstrosity. The Charlotte community needs to stop this from going through now.

Wait...you're going from the low income, section 8 BS on to something else???
You know that wasn't ever discussed or even brought up last night....
