@ Buy it right:
Craiglist has 2 areas to sell cars in, one is for" by dealers "and the other one is for " by owner, private party " that seems pretty clear.. As for the average "by owners " car needing $ 1400 worth of repairs, a statement like that needs verification, with a link to a study, or it meens absolutely nothing..like telling me my medical insurance prices will be 1/2, or I can keep my Dr. and policy...come on...be real..

Come on now JC not every person who is looking on CL for sale by owner can tell who is playing by the rules.

Dealers have no place advertising as owners.

As for the legality of listing under by owner, I can state solidly it is not illegal. You could however find civil president to file a legal action should the dealer not provide what they advertised..
Well every week WHAM has a call in show hosted by a couple of lawyers and I will have to call in and ask then that exact question ... is it legal for a dealer to advertise a car by misrepresenting themselves as an owner ??, and more importantly is it ethical to lie to customers ?

Will have to see what they say.

Is CL and "advertisement"??
CL is more like the classifieds.
Does the cars in the Classifieds in the D&C have to disclose if they are a dealer??

Dont let any dealer who comes on here fool you there is a reason that savvy car shoppers prefer to buy from owners rather than dealers.

I can see if someone is buying a 10k used car then buying from a big dealer in town makes sense as there is a warranty involved.

However must of the used cars in the 5k and under range you are always better to buy direct from an owner.

Face it the reason post as owners is that the general public wants no part of the dealer section or they would be looking there in the first place.

I wonder how the dealers that keep getting called out in this forum think about all of the bashing that they are getting ?

Big difference worth noting and tha is CL clearly seperates ads from dealers and private owners and that is what this topic is all about.... the dealers who post as owners.

I love it that you all are trying to clean up CL. We have the same issue here. I just wish that CL would ban these dishonest dealers.

A neighbor of mine is a dealer and I have told him about this forum and he was already aware of it as he heard about it last week talking to others at the local auction, so yes the word is getting around.

I have heard that Craigslist itself is in the process of cleaning up their website maybe this problem will go away if that is the case.

Perhaps it will only take 1 flag to take down a dealer post in the owner section.

Now that would be nice.

That would solve the problem once and for all as their ads will be flagged right away.

Did you know you are helping them advertise right now. That is what they wanted in the first place. Every advertisement is deceptive. It get you talking about it, thinking about, and getting mad or happy about it. They win
