CSEA union members call Monroe County unfair

They say Monroe County is being unfair. They are CSEA union members, many of them part-time workers who do county jobs at the DMV, with passports at the county office building or in the probation department. Full Story

union dues with nothing to show for it? Ain't that like the taxes we pay? With the only thing getting fatter is those elected officials who control their own destiny, who get raises and don't have to vote on it?

It's about time someone took the unions to task. They collect one heck of a lot of money and what do the members have to show for it? Next one to take a pay cut should be Adam Urbanski.

I agree, all the dues I paid I never got any help from the union when I needed it. Where does the money go, into who's pocket???

The CSEA is bloodsucking! They will never stop until everyone makes at least $70,000 a year.

The County has engaged in Anti-Union Animus. This is not about free choice, it is about an employer (Monroe County) that does not want to extend any rights or paid time off to hardworking part-time employees. It is about an employer who is undermining the negotiation process and is in clear violation of the Taylor Law.

Unions increase costs for consumer goods and government services forcing consumers and taxpayers to pay increasingly more, for increasingly less. I'm in a union and yes, I get a COLA raise so I know first hand. You should agree with me and admit it also or stop paying me more and then complaining about it.

What do you expect from Maggie Brooks. The only ones that are supposed to make money in Monroe County are her cronies that own all the business. When they can"t steal money for benefits like they did at the water authority, they sure don"t want any body else to get paid well or have benefits.

What the county is attempting to do is inexcusable. If they were so worried about the employees, they would come to the negotiation table with respectful and fair proposals, not attempt to break the union and make the employees scared and intimidated.

Just keep playing dumb Maggie. You didn't know what was going on with the workers who were supposed to be working for the county but were working on private property. What these people at the Dmv wouldn't give you campaign contributions? You are the poorest excuse for a county manager we have had in monroe county

dont like unions... ok! let volunteer firefighters take an extra 7-10 minutes to get to your Dad having a heart attack. dont like unions, ok! let volunteer police respond 20-30 minutes after your wife was beat up by inner city trash while walking out of wegmans, dont like unions, ok! let your produce, meats, milk, goods, sit somewhere while a mexican wetback decides weather or not to drive the load. dont like unions, ok... live your life, but dont complain when goods or services are INSTANTLY less of quality or professional! you want quality, you pay for it! simple as that! Unions provide protection to employees which in turn make them more productive and more professional. Those who dont have a card, are simply jealous and automatically assume the unions are bad.

This is yet another Example of The Unions not wanting to fall into line with everyone else. They see people getting laid off and fired and the losses of revenues yet they stand up and say it isn't fair to them. What they think of are only themselves! They don't have a clue or give a hoot about the average Taxpayer and you wonder why you wait so long at the places they work! The same reason the US Automakers are loosing money when the Non Union American Made Japanese Autos are making money! The well is only so deep and it has run dry!

Boy I sure can't wait for The Government to run Health Care!

And if Unions make places or workers more productive, I'd like to know where this is cause I haven't seen it yet!

It Takes 2 sides to Come up With Respectful and Fair Proposals, When are The Unions going to do this??
It isn't always The Other Guys Fault! Time for The Unions to Pony up and face reality!

Every wonder why everything is so expensive starting with the vehicle you drive, the food that you purchase, taxes, etc. Need I go on. The Unions served a purpose at one time. Now they are a leech sucking the dollars from everyone. Time to limit what the Unions can get away with.

Did the union make the autoworkers more productive?

The unions are the reason the auto industry is failing. Wages too high, work ethic too low. The unions only protect the weak and lazy...good workers do not need union representation, and if they ask for help, they are told to suck it up. The union is in bed with the weakest. The day of needing the unions was over years ago.

The county has had several instances, such as the workers doing private construction jobs on the county payroll, and Maggie Brooks is right in the midst of everything. She claims no knowledge, but do you really think she will admit she is part of a criminal enterprise? Remember, her husband Mr. Wisner was the man responsible for getting Nick Joseph hired at the GPD. How can some of you worship the ground she walks on???? She is part of the problem, not part of the solution. Stop Ren Square!!!!! It is a waste of taxpayer money....she wants to put a roof over the heads of the drug dealers at Main and Clinton! Ren Square is Maggie's Fast Ferry!

The problem with unions is that once they're voted in, it's nearly impossible to vote them out. Even if employees would be open to the possibility of de-unionizing, nobody can question the need for a union or organize a de-union movement without being vilified as a "union buster" or worse - such as being threatened. Unions are like cockroaches: once they get in, it's nearly impossible to get rid of them. If unions are so sure they're needed, then they should have the confidence to put their existence to a vote every few years. And if the unions have actually served a purpose, employees will vote to remain unionized.
