Coyote attack in Irondequoit

Coyotes are on the prowl in some local backyards. A couple in Irondequoit learned firsthand how dangerous these wild animals can be.

Coyote's eat cats, no news here...this was not an attack. It"s more like natural selection.

The neighborhoods around Empire Blvd are located in pretty dense population areas. Where are they coming from? The wooded area around the bay/outlet?

This is why cats SHOULD be kept indoors.

whoa hang on here. First, Empire Blvd is very close to the Bay, great place for coyotes. Second they do attack small animals, small dogs(a yorkie would have no defense against a coyote) cats and yes have been known to go after young children. Their no joke. I do agree cats should stay indoors, dogs should be on a leash or fenced in yard, and children, well...should be with an adult.

We have coyotes and I do not let my cat or dog out at night at all. Also, coyotes will attack dogs. A golden Retriever was killed in our town last year when it wen after coyotes inthe woods. They do have coyote hunting and some people protested that last year. People want to protect them until their dog is hurt or killed then the hunt is on! Just like deer hunting, bambi is ohh so cute until he hits the windshield of your car and lands on you!

30 some miles south of you guys there are several thousands of homes with cats that live INDOOR/OUTDOOR lives. As cats naturally ARE one of the cleanest animals....if they can toilet naturally. Dirt.. not Litter pan.. any how my cat lived twelve years. pets ARE a little piece of NATURE temporarily brought into our homes. Separate them like caged tigers from nature and the life fade from their souls/minds.

Doesn't anyone believe that coyotes would be a really good way to help control the overpopulation of old people in that area?

Have you seen the number of old people in and around Irondequoit lately?

We have to do something to help control that population.

If you leave your baby, cat, or dog outside unattended, then you are unfit to have any and deserve to be fed to coyotes with laser beams on their foreheads!

Sheesh - by the title of the article I thought some rabid coyote attacked a person. This is purley an act of "nature". Fox and raccoon can kill cats too.

That area in Irondequoit is still a great place to live and of those old bastards that are dying, a high percentage of them are selling or willing their homes to family (grand children usually)in effect keeping the neighborhood just the way it's been for over 50 years! And to anybody in that neighborhood I'll tell you what a wise old guy told me when I moved in over 12 years ago and it seems to be working. "It's a great neighborood and we try to keep it that way, so if you see anybody that doesn't look like their from the neighborhood call the police and they'll schoo them out. And by the way, we don't have any blackies that live here, not that I have anything against them or anything, I just want them in their neighborhood and me in mine". I guess he was "sugar coating" his feelings for my sake. But I have called IPD for anything that looks out of the ordinary (regardless of color) and they (IPD) handle things pretty quickly, after all most of them are from Irondequoit and want to preserve thier home town also.
