Are you kidding an award that is given out by the same enity to itself. how valid is that. Wegmans has been overchargeiing for food for years and then at the same time most of its workforce is a minimum wage force makeing labor cheap for wegmans. then employees at store are shaved back on hours so benefits would not be paid out. now that thier is some compition in rochester wegman stores are closing imagin that. thank god for wal mart. the wegman family has become very wealthy off the poor in this city and sorrounding areas. while wegmans pulls out of these neigborhoods.... etics etics please the word etics in your book is not the one people abroad think it is. the word etics that you use was created by bussiness people who have interest in looking good in the public eye. MARKETERS. shame on channel 10 for reporting propaganda shame

I don't know what "etics" and "bussiness" is that Nick refers to but I do know that Wegmans is consistently at the top of the list for the best companies to work for in the country. So, I'm not sure how that is possible if everything Nick mentions is true. Oh, and the only Wegmans I have seen close is one that is being replaced by a new, state of the art facility. I could be wrong about that but pretty sure Wegmans is doing okay.

I agree with nick. Wegman's has been ripping off the Rochester community for years and using cheap labor with no benefits. Wegmans pulls out of the city because they do not want to deal with the black and poor population. Ethics???????? The Wegman family are a bunch of low life scum. Price Rite is making money in the city. Danny gets an award to stop selling cigarettes he was not making money on. More crap awards to these low life Wegmans. I wonder if they will get an award for being the best a@@ holes.

P Joseph go over to Chili Ave and Brooks. That wegmans closed because Walmart was across the street. It was built in the mida 1980's. Wegmans could not compete. Also another Wegmans closed in Buffalo acrosss from the Galleria Mall. We heard the same story about GM doing good a few years ago but the competition ate them up. You talk with your butt.

Go, Frank!! I know danny sued a customer for a bad check, was chump change until all his fees, etc. It ended up being paid by her SSI money. So, bottom line, he took money from the state which is probably illegal and definately unethical. Mr millionaire suing a poverty person. I NEVER shop ay his lousy stores. I can make any of his lovely, highly overpriced baked goods for 1/4 of the price with ingredients I buy from Aldi's.

Wegmans has been taking advantage of people for a long time. Before the competition came in Rochester bananas use to be 69 cents a pound. Then Aldi's and Walmart showed up. How much money did Wegmans make on just Bananas ever week for years?? Now they are 48 cents a pound and they still are making money. I am just sick of their ways to make money by over charging people. What ethics? They are crooks. They rip off the public and then give money back to the public to look good. Jessie James. That Coleen will run the company into the ground. No brains here. I do not think she even has a mouth. You never see her. What a leader. When Danny dies who will talk? She has had everything handed to her. A spoiled brat. Just like the sister getting I agree with Frank and Nick. I bet Wegmans will loose lots of money in the next few years. The stores are to big and can not be competitive in this poor economic environment.

A new Price Rite is opening in Southtown Plaza next month. More competition for Wegmans and better prices for the rest of us.

I agree that Wegmans runs like heck from the city- I can't believe that they're still on East Ave- except that that is apparently an acceptable location- near enough to Brighton! I have been to the Pricerite on Culver and University- the staff there are lovely. I will never forget when they closed the Wegmans on Mt. Hope- that left a big hole in shopping convenience for that neighborhood- which includes the U of R- I guess they weren't willing to cater to graduate and medical and nursing students- only interested in them when they have graduated, started making big bucks, and have moved to Pittsford!!!

Pauline its is big bucks or nothing for Wegmans. Those small city stores had poor people shopping in them and did not make the big bucks for them. The same sales strategy GM has used for many years. While Honda, Toyota sold smaller cars, GM sold the large gas hogs that made the most money. The rest is history. In Pittsford they can charge 69 cents for Bananas and get away with it. I am sure that even those rich folks will soon feel the pinch and cut back. Just like the cars.

Danny Wegman stopped selling tobacco products cuz he was charging 8 buck a pack for cigarettes before the tax increase! He was loosing money on them! it has nothing to do with ethics!!

If he's so nice & down to earth, why didn't he return my phone call to try to resolve an issue?? So, instead, I cut up my weggie card & sent it back to him. Still didn't bother him enough to call me. I hear his Dad was the nice one. danny's just an idiot with lousy taste in clothes.

Robert Wegman ran a top notch grocery chain. Since Danny and his daughters have been involved, it has gone downhill. Does anyone remember when Neil Hirsh went to jail for drugs on the boat, but Danny was with him and it was hushed up - Danny did not even get tried in a court of law (but no one saw him for a while - rehab?). I have not been in a Wegman's in over 2 years, shopping at Tops, PriceRite, and the Shurfine in Webster. I am saving money hand over fist, as Wegman's consistent low prices are only low in their eyes. Danny quit selling smokes because he was not selling enough to be profitable, and now everyone thinks he is a hero. Why doesn't he ban smoking on his property, as many times there are people smoking outside the door. And Danny, et all, tried to get NYState to allow grocery stores to sell wine...which would have put many of the small liquor stores out of business - Danny claims it will create jobs....he is not a business man....he is an inheritor of a grocery store chain. And his daughters are no brighter!!!!
