I'm not sure how I feel about this. On the one hand, the name Manhattan Square was iconic. I think I will forever refer to it as such in casual conversation. On the other hand however, Dr. Martin Luther King is a man I really respect and I'm very happy to see him honored by the City of Rochester. I guess I'm for it.

Your thoughts?

I think that is very honorable and respectful. I am with you on that one. But like you said, Manhattan Square Park IS Manhattan Square Park, so people will still refer it as that until they get use to the new name.

Let's go all in and rename RocCity to Martin Luther Kingville. We could regain national and world prominence now that Kodak and B&L have been flushed.

Just a reminder. He plagiarized his doctoral thesis, subsequently he's not a doctor. The University was meeting to revoke it when he died. Upon his death, they decided not to press the issue - so the myth persists (in one community, anyway).

If he were white, we won't put his title in front of his name (you see, we're more secure).

Oh, and he grabbed "I have a dream" from another preacher.

Lets name Lyell Ave after him, for all the white hookers he solicited.

This DOCTOR MLK stuff is out of control. How anyone can look up to him is nuts. This guy had issues by the truckload. Serious woman abuse issues. But he is a icon. I don't get it.

Sorry. This whole feel good renaming everything after King does NOTHING to help the blacks. The current blacks have no clue as to Kings message.
Excellent comment, and so true. Mayor Richards is sucking up (he does that so well), and could care less about MLK's legacy. Another political hack doing something that benefits no one, but is a feel good project.

Instead of renaming a park with new signage, spend the money improving the infrastructure, or adding a couple of police officers.

Richards is just doing this for the black vote. Pitiful.
Everything is now called King this, Susan B. that, Fred Douglas blah blah blah. Sickening.

How about Arthur Shawcross City Hall?

This is a waste of money, time and resources. It buys nothing, except another MLK named location, which is unneeded. It has no value to the taxpayers. It's not even a good political "gift", because it doesn't impact anyone's life in positive way. Education, training and jobs make a difference. Not a new sign.

Anything named MLK is usually a he11hole high crime area.

Good point. I forgot that entirely. I think a lot of people heard Mayor Richard's pronouncement and said here we go again.

I, too, oppose this showy, unnecessary name change. Let's not let this be the end of it.

Let's just name everything for this womanizing reprobate. Isn't this ridiculous project? Push back and say no, Mayor.

I'm white, but sometimes the racism that my people spew is just pathetic. I'm embarrassed at what I'm reading here. Wow...

I'm embarrassed to learn you're white. I'm also surprised you didn't call them racist haters and hysterically declare it's Bush's fault, Bush did it, too.

The Spanish gangs would stab you up for such a name.

MLK was a big fraud, just like hands up don't shoot. He should have nothing named after him.
