Choice of words for headline

Why is the headline for this article "Black male" sets fire. Was it necessary to use the word Black Male as a descriptor? Why not "Man" or "Rochesterian", or even use the man's name - personally I would not have choosen that option but after all his name was referenced in the body of the article.
