The Rochester man convicted of killing an East High School student was sentenced to 25 years to life in prison Thursday morning.
Devonte Lively, 21, was found guilty of second degree murder in the death of Larie Butler, 17.
Lively killed Butler in the basement of his grandmother's Irondequoit home in March of 2012, then hid her body in a neighbor's swimming pool.
In court today, Prosecutor Kelly Wolford said, "The defendant never showed one ounce of remorse. All we can do now is make sure Devonte Lively never gets out of prison. This community will never be safe if he's not behind bars."
Defense Attorney James Nobles said, "The Devonte Lively you heard about at the trial is not the Devonte Lively I dealt with. He was always polite and courteous."
Lively declined to address the court.
Before he sentenced Lively, State Supreme Court Justice Thomas Moran said Lively was, "Evil vile, vicious. Those are the three words that come to mind."
Lively will spend 25 years to life in prison
