Violence is everywhere. So many of our children are being raised in homes where they can not sit in front living rooms for fear of being shot. It is the gangs and the people w/o a conscience who continue to strip of us our right to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. I support Mayor Duffy 300% and know that our school district is advocating to not only make all accountable, but we need to all treat our children as if they were our own. It is too easy to give up, move away, and say "Hey, there is no trouble here". That is not the case; even in our suburban and rural areas we have gangs of children trying to act cool, smoke and take drugs, destroy their own lives and the lives of their families. America, it is time for us to take charge and stop this violence. To the mayor, the police chief, and our district's superintendent, please lead us in this adventure. God bless us all.

I think that it is pretty obvious that these sorts of crimes happens at night in certain neighborhoods. Commited by the same types of people every single night. I believe that we need preventive measures like, every five minutes a squad car goes and checks on certain neighborhoods. The people of this city cannot do it b/c we are not authorized to carry weapons unless their is a permit for that weapon. It takes forever to recieve that permit. It is noone elses fault for high crime except for the criminals. IMO I believe that there are certain members of the RPD that are paid off by these thugs, and that is the reason that not many are getting caught.

Why is Duffy the one talking about the crime, he's not the RPD Chief???
OOhh, I forgot, he still micromanages the police and Chief Moore is just a figurehead and can't speak for himself.

Whats up with Duffy???
He use to blame Drugs and Gangs on all crime, yet here not one mention of drugs or crimes???
And whats up with our white Mayor blaming "culture" as the problem in our City where black is the majority???
And when the cop was shot, there really wasn't any public outcry, it was only the cops, cops families in the burbs, and the media that were outcrying out it.
This letter, sounds like Duffy is going to have the RPD start illegally searching "cultured" people again?
And why when the 4 were killed near christmas, Duffy said if a cop was on every corner, it wouldn't stop killings from happen, yet now he acts as if if could???
But this is another fine example of Duffy and his nazi gestapo of blaming us when crime is up and taking credit themselves when its down. You can't have it both ways.

Ha Ha,
How about that it's parents' responsibility to teach their kids, not the police. Oh, I forgot, many of these kids don't know their fathers. At the same time, mothers continue to go out have more kids. But that's okay. They have nothing to worry about, since the state will pay out more taxpayer money to support them. Maybe the great governor of New York can hand out more $200 checks times the number of kids in the household, so more flat screen TVs, cell phones..........errrr school supplies can be purchased.

Then It says, "These are examples of a decrepit street culture that does not value human life or the rights of other citizens".
But THAT is exactly how the cops interact with the people they police in the city!
"The police are not the problem; they are part of the solution".
I think it is the other way around! The cops teach these young kids how to behave every time some cop tries to teach them respect!
I am not sure where to begin; but how about this? First, the urban population is a different dynamic in it's age bracket, income, and family dynamics than 15 years ago. The single parent families we are seeing a huge increase in are often a parent under the age of 18, 16, and under the supervision ALREADY of the county or State. The results of our current and past program efforts. The lack of educational success is the real basis for cultural collapse; wherever you go. The Mayor and RPD are the fallguys for a much greater problem than City crime, it's the target of choice by those who are blind to the real enemy. The suburbs are no better in fact I think they are worse. Bravo Mayor Duffy!! It is what it is, do your job, do your best, do what you gotta do. God Bless you and Chief Moore.

You are presenting the level of ignorance that feeds the violence you claim to object to. You also disrespect anyone who ever lived under Nazi domination, and their families. Shame on you for your stupid and hateful comments.

Mayor Duffy has been a blessing to the Rochester area. He made a valid, and too often overlooked, statement "we need community accountability". Police and schools are not responsible to care for youth. Parents and community must step up and become part of the solution. Understanding that we can't watch our children 24 hours a day, but we must strive to install values, respect for authority and compassion which will prevent youth from putting themselves in difficult situations and help prevent crime in our neighborhoods. Because without parental and community support no matter what policy is put into effect it will be doomed to failure.

We being by fixing the laws that steal our civil liberties.
Then we wouldn't need so many cops to enforce ALL those laws (or NOT enforce, if you are on the right team).

The US is turning into a prison nation.

We keep re-electing idiots like Schumer who justify their tax feeding existance by making STUPID laws like the Silver Alert!
Or banning incondescant light bulbs ...(can't wait for a cop to issue a warrant to seach a house for those ... all those crimials in the boyscouts selling banned lightbulbs.)
or mandating digital camera that make a click noise so sexual preditors can't take you picture on the sly ... can't wait for a cop to seize some otherwise innocent kid phone because it does not make enough stupid noises.)

WE are allowing lawmakers & law enforcement to turn otherwise tax paying folks into tax feeding prisoners. Then we complain when they commit some of the most insain acts, because they have nothing to loose .. they already have lost it. No job (who wants to hire a convict?) no rights, and no respect.

We put ourselves into poverty by electing one crook after another into public office, where they take care of themselves, and not the people who elect them there.

Wow! I feel your frustration with your words. Although, I do believe they are misguided. Crime is not a result of the police it is a result of a community that is failing to install values, guidance, and responsibility in our youth. It saddens me when so many point out the obvious in stead of helping find solutions. I also don't believe Mayor Duffy disrespected any race but stated that living in an urban setting does not give approval to commit crimes.

I like Duffy too, He killd the FAST FERRY & REN SQUARE ... so I beleive he is looking out for the rest of Rochester.
I also like how he tries to save the city money by driving his own car and encouraging others in his office to do the same ... on a NON ELECTION YEAR.
Sure he MIGHT micro manage the RPD, but in his defense, that is where his experince is, and he would know best how to weed out corruption while supporting the work the police do ... NOT an easy job.
Normally, I believe you should get rid of ALL incumbants, but Duffy I would vote for again. You never know what new albotross Maggie might throw at us taxpayers next.

why don't you get this way about the dirty cops who make the rest look bad?!?

One thing the system could stop sending parents to jail for bull$hit crimes. Lately many criminals (ROBuTRAD) go to jail on the weekends. Start doing this with minorities so the parents can be at home. If there's a drug problem, GOOD treatment is needed, not the revolving door like MainQuest and REstart. You cannot be an accountable parent locked up in jail for minor crimes, like looking at someone or stepping on someones toes. This is another piece of the puzzle to help the community get itself together.

Just a question: How are you a good parent if your committing any crimes. Shouldn't a good parent set a good example.

Justifying bad behavior by pointing out other bad behavior does nothing to support your cause. Just shows ignorance, and In all due respect I don't think you are ignorant.

Lynn Taliento was a teacher. She and her husband ripped off an elderly lady blind. Lynn got jail time, but the husband got weekends in jail. None of the Robutrad criminals got jail time. This is my point. Why do minorities always have to get jail time? Of course, murder is a different story.
