Shellie, There is no way you are ever going to convince any yankee that it is the right thing to do to help another humam being. They are All in the same mind set. Its all about them and no one else matters. Most of them do not believe in helping anyone UNLESS there is something in it for them. Most of the homeless suffer from some type of mental illness and to a yankee, they are "less human" than they are so they dont feel the compassion to help someone. I left ny yrs ago because of this very thing. No one cares about anyone unless they will profit from it. I bet all the above posters who are talking about how stupid the cop was for helping him wish it had been them who helped him now since the cop is receiving so much money and media attention for his kindness. And if you wonder why he has received so much attention for this it is because this is something that RARELY happens in NYC. Its not like down south where this happens many times a day. Yankees are in fact the rudest people who walk this earth. I at one time was one of them and am very proud to say I am no longer a yankee nor do I act as one.

Typical northern response. Can you not see that the cop did something nice, even if they man was not honest?? What is wrong with that???? I dont call it stupid, I call it helping another human. Homeless or not, he is still a Human.

The cop did not know the mans history nor did he care about it. He saw a person in need and though the kindness of his own heart, decided to assist this person. I have helped MANY MANY people who I did not know their history but It is better to help someone who may not need it than to turn a blind eye to someone who may really need it. And I agree with the other posters, Yankees seem to think the whole world revolves around them and them only. They can not see the hungry children that are right in their faces because they are to busy judging the childrens parents for NOT providing food for them. Is it the childrens fault that they parents would rather spend money on drugs than feed them? NO IT IS NOT! So in a yankees eye, the children will do without food because they do not want to see that it really is happening. Again. I am thrilled this cop assisted someone who in the cops eye, was in need.

No Brian Griffin, we have a heart and care for other humans and do not look down on those less fortunate as you and most other yankees do. Try to put yourself in another persons place. YOU are not promised you will be where you are tomorrow nor is anyone else. YOU could easily be homeless, without food or clothing. Then you would want someone to care enough to provide you with the basic needs of life. YOU could loose your job and home in a split second and end up on the streets like so many others have done.

I care about homeless people and people with no shoes and food.
But this story is not about a homeless man with no shoes or food,
it's a story about a stupid cop that fell for a simple and obvious scam.

Ok Brian Griffin... say you are walking down the street of your fine city and you come across several homeless people, wearing torn cloths, no coat, asking for money... Out of this group of apparent homeless people , one is a scammer.. HOW DO YOU KNOW WHICH ONE???
The cop did not know he was a scammer and he gave out of the goodness of his heart. Since you think you are so smart.. Explain how this cop would have known this man was not homeless?
And you may care about homeless people but I have my doubts about how much you GIVE to them. You, a typical yankee, are afraid you will be scammed.

Again, it was more from the stupidness of his brain then the goodness of his heart.

There was many clues for the cop to figure out it was fake.
Do I have to list them all??
You are as stupid as the cop, as you would actually believe that there are old man in this country that NEVER owned a pair of shoes.

I believe and know that there is homeless people who suffer from mental illness and for the most part dont have a clue what they are doing nor saying. AGAIN. It was more from his caring for another human being than for being stupid or so self centered that he can not see others in need as MOST yankees are.
You still have not answered my question as to how you would know out of several homeless people which one is faking? I guess you wouldnt worry about ANY of them and just go on with your self pretending that you didnt see them. Yea, thats exactly how I observed people in NYC treat others. Observed a couple of teenagers knock a older lady down and keep going. NO ONE stopped to assist her back up. EVERYONE walked around her as she struggled to get up. We stopped and helped her up, I put a bandaid on her hand which she skinned when she fell. She thanked us and thanked up, tried to pay us for helping her. After talking with her she said : I can tell you are not from here" We told her we were in NYC on business. And she said she knew we werent from there since we helped her up.As I said before,NEW YORKERS ARE THE RUDEST PEOPLE IN THE U.S

A homeless man in the streets with a thin coat on would not last a NY winter even with a nice pair of warm boots.
If the cop cared he should have made sure he had somewhere to live instead of freezing on the streets. If the cop cared he could have also bought him a winter coat seeing he got such a deal on the boots.

You can't argue that new yorkers suk and at the same time argue this ny cop didn't suk.

You have to be a republican, as they are the only ones that can argue both sides of a fight.

The cop cared enough to see he got boots. Thats ALOT more than any one else did now isnt it? How do you know the cop didnt ask him if he had a place to stay? Wondering just how many proud yankees walked past this man, looking the other way, pretending NOT to see him or any of the other people in need that yankees NEVER see. I have observed this many times as my job takes me to this horrible city more times than I ever cared to be there. If it wasnt for my work taking me there, I would never set foot in that place. Each and every time I am there, I see how yankees treat each other and its horrible. Cant see people right in front of their noses that need a little help cause they are way to focused on themselves. I was taught to treat others as you want to be treated yourself. Guess no one ever taught a yankee that, along with alot of other basic human behavior. But they were all taught how to be rude to others and they have that down to a fine art.

Shellie, you are not going to convince any yankee to do anything to assist anyone. They are the most rude people in the world and they only think of themsleves. A good example is recently some idiot pushed someone on the tracks at the subway and NO ONE bothered to help him back up on the platform and he was hit and killed. That is the typical yankee. They are all for themselves and do not believe in helping anyone. Am so thankful the whole world is not like them. They can turn a blind eye toward anyone.
