Fundamentally, I agree that locking him up for 5 years will accomplish nothing, except cost the state (that's us) about $500,000.
If sex offenders are horrible (and they are), lock them up for life by statute. Otherwise, this policy of releasing them, waiting for them to violate parole without perpetrating another physical crime, and revoking parole is ridiculous and expensive. If porn does it for him, and keeps him from recommitting, maybe that's his rehab therapy.
While I think sex offenders are the lowest rung of society, I also think we spend an inordinate amount of law enforcement time and resources enforcing minor violations in NY state.
