Poll: Young people see online slurs as just joking

Is it ever OK to tweet that a girl's a "slut"? How about slinging offensive names for homosexuals in a post to a friend on Facebook? Or texting a racial slur? Most young people think it's all right when friends are joking around with each other, according to a new poll.

It's more Orwellian doublethink. They can indulge in hate speech without being guilty of hate.

It's analogous to supermodels who advocate for PETA, meanwhile strutting down the runways wearing fur.

In either case, their bulbs don't burn brightly, if they burn at all.

Well I don't agree.

I don't find it funny when people use "gay" to mean stupid, or call each other the F word, or when black people refer to each other as the N word and then get pissed when a white person does it. It is offensive.

But what do I know. People my age are illiterate morons.

When I was in high school, I participated in the school drama club. One thing I learned from doing that is, when you are doing something "in private" or you are not taking seriously what you are doing because "tonight" isnt "show night" you are going to eventually get sloppy and the bad actions you do during rehearsals WILL find their way into the show.

If you think doing it among friends is ok, think about what your friends might feel if the words your slinging apply to them without your knowing it does. Friends are not a rehearsal - they are the show!

Its not people sharing these things with each other that is the problem. Just take a look at the comments on youtube sometime. You will see what I mean.

Snyper's right. Statistics clearly show homosexuals are no more likely to be a pedophile than a heterosexual. Orientation is does not mean a person is necessarily bad or good.
