Metro Detroit -- Fueled by $71.3 million in federal economic stimulus funds, the Michigan Department of Transportation is set to begin three major road projects within the next two weeks.

Even the stimulus is not enough to cover the damage.
I have an MDOT bridge 2.5 miles from me that is crumbling. It's so bad the underneath has to be pasted with plywood to keep chunks from falling on the passing cars below. It's been this way many years now. The top deck was suffering freeze/thaw damage and some genius came up with the idea of dangling holes in the road and dangling a PVC pipe so the water falls on the shoulder of the road below and biker/joggers.
Using the MDOT rating system for bridges, this structure is considered good because the superstructure is not too bad and there is no immediate danger, so they say.
