Barnett upbeat about Rochester Hills

Full story: Hometown Life

Though it's no secret the state's economy is suffering, it will be an upbeat Rochester Hills Mayor Bryan Barnett who takes the city hall podium tonight for his first State of the City address.

Bryan Barnett is the reason there will soon be a city manager form of government in Rochester Hills. Bryan should have never been selected as the Mayor of Rochester Hills, but Barb Holder and Jim Duistermars and other Rochester Hills City council made deals ahead of time as to who would act as mayor while in reality one city employee calls the shots. Barnett will be the reason that Jack Dalton and others will be able to shove in a city manager form of government (due to Barnett's mistakes). Soon, the citizens will once again lose checks and balances in the government. Now tell me Bryan, if your budget did not have "smoking guns", why is that the first thing that you denied? Rochester Hills needs to have people without hidden agendas who are not repeatedly getting the taxpayers into frivelous lawsuits to be on our city council and as Mayor. Thank you Ravi and E-man for catching Barnett's "MULTI-million dollar mistake." We need more trustworthy people. Look at Bryan Barnett, Jim Duistermars and their political buddies on the city council in Troy. They have stepped into a cow pile in Troy that will cost the taxpayers millions of dollars from a court case.

Bryan Barnett lied to the people during the league of women voters' debate last week. Bryan chooses who is allowed to attend the roundtable discussions. They are people he has handpicked who he intends to payback their campaign contributions when they are allowed to develop the city against the citizen's master plan.

The big time, big money partisan politics is alive and flourishing in Rochester Hills and I find it sickening. If Rochester Hills residents want to have a voice in the shaping of their community-don't vote for Barnett for mayor.
Bryan is just a youger Somervile and will do what he feels is in the best interest of his poltical future. He is owned lock stock and barrel by Oakland County Republicans.Check out all the business locations in Rochester Hills that will only allow Barnett and/or Pixley signs. I will not support any business in Rochester Hills that partakes in partisan politics. God knows we have more than enough stores to shop at with many more coming. There are plenty of business professionals in this community who will not be a part of Bryan's games.
And what is the BS I hear that letters have been sent to Shadow Woods residents bashing Erik Ambrozaitis? OPC employees have been campaigning for Bryan. I thought that was illegal for a non-profit. Arts and Apples advertising the festival as The Bryan Barnett show. His campaign literature is a bunch of lies. So much for the Clean Campaign Pledge. It is all about control-who will control our roads and our Master Plan.

Barnett has NOT had all of the business to his roundtable discussions. His families first idea came from Lois GOLDEN. Brian is like a lot of the politicians that creep into the churches and use the gullible parishioners for his political gain. Pixley, Jacobson and these other slimey politicians mentioned ROCHESTER and NOT ROCHESTER HILLS during the OPC forum. Lois GOLDEN wants a tax freeze and is well qualified for the Mayor seat. She has been on city council and presently works with DDA. E-Man is good also, but in the letter to the newspaper, he wants to raise taxes his 2nd. Term. Beaton stinks.

I just read Beaton's "news" left in my driveway. This was an expensive peiece of campaign literature. WHere has he gotten his money? Beaton is going to make all these wonderful changes and stay within the budget? We dont have enough money to pave our streets. Also, I have not seen him at any of the many meetings over the last few years regarding the many volatile issues plaguing our city. He may have been on COuncil for 8 years but where has he been since then?

Interesting statements from people that don't even live in the city. Where do you get your info?

Go Erik Ambrozaitis. More can be learned by going to his site. Mayor Barnett has lied in his literature. The people he encouraged to get into the race have not even been involved in the city with meetings. Many of them slipped up and said they were running for positions in Rochesters and NOT Rochester Hills. Look at the budget and look at your tax bill. Spending is out of control just like with a heroin addict. E-man is the fiscally responsible and honest candidate. Most people are so removed from politics that they don't even know that Barnett was appointed and voted for himself (to break the tie vote.)

I applaud mayoral hopeful Erik AMbrozaitis for protesting BArnett's use of slate politics outside of Rochester City Hall.Erik is absolutely correct that partisan politics does not belong in local politics. All of Barnett's slate should be outraged over a postcard sent out by outgoing councilman Duistemars slamming RH candiates not in his slate and supporting Barnett's chosen few. Duistemars denies the mayor's slate yet all of the candidates have donated to each others campaigns and have been publically acknowledged as a slate in the Eccentric.Barnett has stated that their is nothing wrong or illegal about "the endorsment" yet he, and all the rest of the candiates in his slate signed a clean campaign pledge. How about the reverse side of the card that slams other candiates? Barrnett doesnt mention this. This is a clean campaign to bash other candiates? Barnett and his buddies should be outraged. Instead they say it is OK for them to to be negative and to run as a slate. If the other candiates dont march to their tune, then they are branded as finger pointers and bad people. To run a campaign as an independent has become impossible unless you are aligned with the OPC, Critteton Hospital, unions, big Republican politics and big developer's money.
The company Barnett keeps and who help run his campaign are the characters who were involved in the dirty politics two years ago that included property damage and phone threats to candiates that were not aligned with the then admintration's efforts to stack the council. You are as good as the company you keep and Bryan's camapign team are about as low as you can go and not get arrested.
If RH resdients want a govenrment that represnts them-then look closely and think carefully before you vote. If BAnrett and his slate gets in, we the resdients of Rochester Hills will have no voice. Decisions will be made before they get to the COuncil and this city will continue to be a "playground" for greedy developers and businesses.

This entire thread is sadly typical of the anti-Barnett camp -- spiteful, angry, nonfactual. Everything Barnett does is wrong, but somehow when E-man does the same thing, that's OK. It is a shame that the campaign has devolved to this finger-pointing.

Tell me, if Barnett is elected, will you accept that his approach is what the residents want, and accept that your opiniion is in the minority? Will you be able to respect the wishes of your fellow residents?

Marie 1957 I find your comments way off base. First off, Erik Ambrozaitis ran as a slate in 2005 with his "three amigos"! He has been supporting Mr. Windscheif as well as putting out lawn signs for him.
Not only that but E-Man states on his Campaign Literature that he is "REGISTERED REPUBLICAN", well we DONT HAVE PARTY REGISTRATION IN MICHIGAN, so that is a lie. Second off what does being a Republican have anything to do with the office of the Mayor.
Marie you cannot have it both ways you must be fair, and non-biased. I am not saying Barnett is perfect but he did not issue the post cards and that is the bottom line.

If Barnett's name was on the card then he is responsible as are the rest of Barnett's slate of candidates. The windscheif/Ambrozaitis slam is flase. The BArnett, Pixley, etc. is absolutely the definition of a partisan slate. One needs to only look at the contribution records. The fact is that two years ago Kirksey, WHite and Mungiloi were the then mayor's "slate". Ambrozaitis, Rosen and Yalamnchi became the defacto slate. If you are not in step with the staus quo then you suddenly get lumpeed together as a slate with the rest.Erik can support any one he likes as does Barnett. I will never trust Barbett. ther has been too many times when I have seen him suck to developers and turn his back on the residents. I am not alone. I will never support any tax hike until the cronyism and the good ole' boy network is out of city hall.

I am assuming the the people who have trashed Mayor Barnett are the same ones who are always against any tax increase or improvement of roads especially Hamlin. Those of us who live in the south end of Rochester Hills are thrilled to have the new Adams and Crooks. Frankly, even though I am not thrilled at the addition of Walmart ,the addition of some decent eaterys at this end of town is great. We have already patronized the new Panera's and hope others follow. I hope Barnett wins by a landslide just like in the primary.

You dont speak for all the residents in the south end of Rochester Hills. Many are not thrilled about our taxes being used to build an interchnage at Adams and M59 for Wal-Mart. MAny of us are concerned about just how many restaurants this city can support and how many will close due to this new development.

Please go to: http://courts.oakgov.com/CFRS/IndexedDocs/682... and see who has financed the Strong Leadership FUnd. It is many of the same developers and big business owners who have heavily financed Barnett's campaign. They have sent out a card supporting their slate politics and slamming Ambozaitis and Windscheif for fingerpointing.
If Barnett and his slate are elected, the citizens of RH will have no voice in our comunity.
This may not be illegal but it highly unethical. I plan on driving right by the businesses that play these partisan political games. It may be their right to play these games but it is my right to not support their businesses.
All this partisan politics comes with a price Rochester HIlls residents. The OPC and The CLinton Roverwatershed supporting BArnett is sickening. I will never support any tax hikes until the cronyism is gone form city hall.
Erik will stop all this. He will make badly needed change.Vote carefully this fall Rochester Hills residents. Vote for chnage.

My condolances for your loss as Barnett trounced E-man getting 78% of the total vote.
This is the first time visiting this site, I need to correct you about the selection of Bryan Barnett when he was first appointed. There were several rounds of votes that were a 3-3 tie because Holder was absent. The person who changed their vote to appoint Byran Mayor was Ravi.
Do not blame Bryan for voting for himself unless you are going to criticize Rosen for voting for himself. Those two cancelled each other out.

78% of the the voters voted for Barnett!

There liked Barnett's vision and record of accomplishement. They did not like E-Man's lack of accomplishment. I am not in district 4, but I do not know how the voters there stand to have E-Man represent them. He should resign or be recalled.

In an interview on the independent Robbins Report website, Erik himself said he had not accomplished anything in his two years on council and blames Jim Rosen and others for not wanting to work with him. He admitted he has failed as a council member.

For those who disagree with me, please identify one piece of legislation that Erik wrote, introduced and passed.

This Tuesday, November 6th is election day for Rochester Hills Mayor and City Council. You have a clear choice of candidates that will work for the residents or ones that just like to hear themselves talk. In the last few days leading up to the election you will be hearing many things about the candidates, their abilities and negative campaigning. Here is who I am voting for because I know the candidates.

Bryan Barnett for Mayor. Bryan has instituted many new and innovative ideas since being appointed mayor. He is energetic, creative, a tax-fighter and family oriented. It is refreshing to hear Bryan refer to his faith when he talks. He has been a Republican for a long time, and while this race is non-partisan, Bryan does believe in small government, low taxes and personal responsibility.

Eric Ambrozaitis is running against Bryan. I have met Eric and been the target of his hateful, nasty campaign tactics. My mother taught me if you have nothing good to say about someone, don't say anything at all. So I have nothing to say about Eric.

Vern Pixley and Mike Webber for At-large city council. Vern and I did not agree on things while I was on school board, but things have changed since then. Vern will bring a strong business sense to city council and it is needed. I have known Mike Webber since he was in school with my sons. He has a level head and will be a young, fresh voice on the council. Both of these men are also Republican.

Jennifer Stein and Bill Windscheif are running against Vern and Mike. Jennifer is endorsed by local Democrats. and I have nothing nice to say about Bill, so I won't say anything at all.

There are also district elections in District 2 & 3. In District 2 both candidates would be classified as Democrats but Marty Brennan would be the better choice. In District 3 Greg Hooper would be a good choice as he has shown he has a good, practical head on his shoulders and worked well on council when he was appointed to fill Bryan's seat. Greg is also a Republican.

The opinions in this email are mine and not that of any candidate or campaign. Please feel free to forward this to other Rochester Hills voters.

Please remember to vote on Tuesday, November 6th.

Sincerely,

Theresa Mungioli
Former City Council candidate
Republican activist
