People gotta eat nowadays

They forgot FOOD, of all the deer poached if most are getting killed for fun or money, that IS a SHAME. People are out of work ,out of their homes and out of credit and other options. One deer saves them hundreds of dollars at the grocery store. This is the same DNR that denied cougars were in Minnesota for years as sightings grew more and more close to the suburbs. They are not experts on animals ,they don't observe the animals. They look for people to give tickets and fines to, not creatures. So again, who is poaching the deer? It could be starving people for all they know.Chasing ATV's,speed boats and soon snowmobiles leaves little time to worry about the deer. The deer can take care of themselves .On a rainy, cloudy night it's not hard to see a dozen or more of them along the forest roads on a short 15 to 20 mile stretch.Predators don't hunt without enough light. So rainy nights the deers instincts tell them they can relax a little.Just wait til we are driving silent electruc cars.People will be pushing them back out of their windshields if they keep driving like they do now.Who will need to poach then?

Speaking from experience in our family history, people poach to eat. The antlers can bring thousands of dollars but the meat feeds the kids for 3 months. The antlers that fetch that sort of price are 1:1000 at least. Some twisted people do take pleasure from poaching but most do it out of desperation and necessity. The DNR with their 5 and 6 figure income don't think of that.

Minnesota hunters say the DNR are acting like a bunch of a-holes! I will not buy another deer license!

I believe the DNR has a reason for denying cougars are in Minnesota. For years people have been sighting them. But for the life of me I can not figure out what the reason would be. Probably has something to with funding or something.

The DNR can't be everywhere. If people are destitute and hungry, they are going to take fish and game outside of the laws. If the State catches, prosecutes, and tries to punish people just trying to get by and I'm on that jury, I'll never give the State the conviction they want. These resources belong to the people of Minnesota, not the DNR. The fat DNR can sit in St. Paul and collect statistics and tax money, they aren't helping wildlife, resources, or the citizens they were supposed to serve. The DNR, like almost all government programs and bureaucracies, is less than worthless at enormous cost.

Why don't we just publish how to make an atomic bomb? Or publish detailed schematics for bank security systems? I'm at an absolute loss here.

One more thing... The DNR is upset about poaching, not because we are losing deer population, but because they are NOT BUYING licenses. For years you could legally take up to 5 deer in my area per hunter. The DNR is suffering from smaller numbers of hunters year after year. There revenue is on the decline. Increasing fines is just another means to increase their revenue. DON'T HUNT IN THE KINGS FOREST!!

I would much rather a poacher kill a deer take it home and process it for food then have it hit by a car and left in the ditch to rot.

"DNR Enforcement Division Director Jim Konrad said it's difficult to quantify exactly how many deer are poached" Then how do they know it is on the rise??

Just wait, in a day or two into the hunting season, we'll hear how there are too many deer.

The whole point of this Story is to get the Public Juiced Up on Stopping Poachers. The DNR will now go in front of the State Legislators and ask for More Money. This is how it works people. Its called Government Baiting. The DNR just got a Boat load of Cash, in the Millions from full time Grant writers grabing Stimulus Money from Government Obama Care!

Just carry a knife in your truck, and drive around. You can easily get a half-dozen a night of these forest-rats in a night. And once the cops come and give you a tag, its legal.

I once watched a van filled with Hmongs drive down the street and jump the curb in order to "hit a deer". Would that be considered poaching?
