Proposed (OVER) Development of Rochelle Avenue

Residents of Rochelle Park, please be aware that there is another zoning board meeting tomorrow, Monday May 19th at 7:30 pm 151 West Passaic Street. They will be continuing to discuss the mixed-use development on Rochelle Avenue, just south of the railroad tracks. Mercury Rising is proposing a LARGE mixed use building to be constructed on lands that lead into the Saddle River, contain a number of trees and wildlife, and is in a known flood zone. The DEP has signed off, but since that time their rules have been revised and this development would not be permitted under current guidlines. This building is to be several stories tall with several small stores on the ground floor and parking and 1 and 2 bedroom residential units above. Recently, the developer has indicated that these residential units won't be put up for sale, but rather as rental units due to the housing market. Residents of Rochelle Park should support improvements to the town, but preserve the quality of this quiet suburban town. If this project is allowed, it will likely: increase traffic, increase parking issues on already crowded side streets, increase the chances of traffic accidents (which includes the active train crossing intersection at Railroad Avenue), decrease property values, increase the flood plane (which is already a known issue), increase crime, increase pollution of the Saddle River, add to overcrowding in schools, and change the face of the town as a first and foremost, residential family oriented town. Please support residential improvements and stand up to over-development in our backyards.
This doesn't just effect residents of Rochelle Park, but also Lodi, Saddle Brook and Hackensack as well. Q&A will be allowed at some point during the meeting to discuss the project.
