The popular False River Fourth of July Boat Parade is back on, just days after the event's organizers announced they'd have to cancel it this year.

The celebration after the boat parade.....was it a July 4th. celebration or a POLITICAL CAMPAIGN GATHERING? I thought it was inappropriate for someone to be carrying a sign and handing out tee shirts. The other candidates (if they had known) could have been handing out items also.
Nothing against the mayor, but I just didn't think that was the place for it.
IT WAS A FOURTH OF JULY CELEBRATION !!!!
Also, some of the songs were TOO LONG....got tired of waiting for Rocking Doopsie!

Its because the Mayor sponsored the boat parade to keep it...as it wasn't going to happen. Be it he used New Roads funds and assets (tax $, city insurance, etc)
In short he sponsored his campaigning efforts!
But has an argument that the public got to keep the boat parade. Notice it was on the New Roads end of the river?? And it was on July 5th..not 4th!
Kinda like Obama fly's around spending millions tax $ on Air Force One to CAMPAIN.

And in my opinion.....what does insurance have to do with a boat parade?
If a bunch of boats get in line on a navigable river (although it is a false waterway in this case), so what?
its not on city streets, etc

Some of you can never be satisfied. Of all that the mayor has done for the city, some of your assholes look for things to gripe about. If the "other candidates" did not have the foresight or pep in their step to take the opportunity to campaign at a well advertised event in the heart of the city that they will be running in, why would you want to support them anyway.
Being a mayor to the level of what the city needs is not a easy task. It is hard work and takes a lot of dedication and a vision for the future.
The "other candidates" is one that has little business experience and the other is a failed juror in a failed jury. If you want to look at how Dukes would run the city if he won; look at the corrupt, inept and joke of a jury.

The city limits of New Roads stops at the waters edge. So this was actually not ethical for the city to spend any money on. It may even be illegal. False River belongs to the State of Louisiana. The Police Jury could legally spend money on such a thing. I am not against the boat parade, it's a day of great family fun, but I think the Police Jury is the governing authority in place of the state. Insurance should be necessary for any group putting on any function on public property and the governing body of that event should be named as an additional insured on the policy. I am not trying to burst any bubbles here, but something bad is going to happen on day and the lawyers are going to be looking for the deep pockets. Our Police Jury sure doesn't have any deep pockets.

Now you know politicians don't think rules, laws, etc don't apply to them or their actions.

Did someone say,'something bad is going to happen one day?' Sure hope not, but in case it does, remember that I can defend your rights. Somebody should pay for your suffering and mental anguish. Although I can't promise anything, I do promise to squeeze the guilty party like a lemon until every drop of juice (cold hard cash, or real property) drips out into my pocket, or our pocket, should I say. Anyway, as I said, hope nothing happens *grin*

If any of you went, you'd know that everyone had a safe, fun time. It was wonderful publicity for the entire Parish, and if anyone would have gotten injured, there would have been an insurance company or two to sue.
Yeah, the mayor did campaign, but so did Dan Claitor and a few other people. Anyone could have used it as a free campaign spot. Politicians use LSU football tailgating, parades, and parish fairs...etc. to campaign.
It's not illegal for the city to sponsor a boat parade on False River..that's nonsense. I'd like to know what laws you're referring to.
All of y'all should just come have a fun time with everyone else next year and stop whining. If you don't like the Mayor, don't vote for him. You can even go help someone else campaign at the same event. It is America...we have a freedom of speech and a right to vote! That is part of the whole July 4th weekend celebration!

You better vote for you-know-who or else you-know-who is going to do you-know-what, then what? Exactly.
