This is why compromising with Democrats is a bad idea.

This is the DIRECT result of the Republicans reduced LGA - as Democrats so correctly stated at the time, the Republicans were really raising taxes - they just shifted the tax burden from the state to the cities.

And those cities continue to waste your money instead of looking for places to cut. They just keep raising your taxes. Talk to them.

LGA is nothing more than tax revenue shifting. Many towns get NO LGA while other mismanaged towns like North Saint Paul a swimming in LGA.

North Saint Paul has so much LGA the City Manager said "the LGA money was there to spend to we built a community center with it". AND NOW the North Saint Paul Community Center has been given to Maplewood to operate because North Saint Paul doesn't have the money needed to operate it.

However North Saint Paul still get's $2,000,000 a year in LGA and is spending it like a drunken sailor. The North Saint Paul mayor is on the record saying North Saint Paul property taxes WILL GO UP 75% if the LGA stopps.

You see the explanation from the mayor is that North Saint Paul doesn't have enough commercial industrial base to fund the City operations. Of course the reason for that is that current Property taxes in North Saint Paul are so high that nobody would move into the town.

Additionaly the City is playing games with commercial realestate making it very difficult for any business to get started.

Thank God for all you folks out there not getting LGA because WE LOVE YA in North Saint Paul!!

It could be worse, you could live in Stillwater with a mayor that is more concerned about sniffing the queen teabagger than managing his city.

Congratulations Republicans. You have successfully deferred payments to be dealt with next budget cycle and protected the top 2%.

You did manage to give the voters a chance to institutionalize discrimination in the next election however.

It amazes me people support this crap.

LGA should be completely eliminated!

Here's a question for you.

I live in St Paul. Can you show me how much we collected in state sales taxes vs what we receive in LGA?

Whatís the difference, theyíre going to take our interest deduction away, you will most likely loose your homestead credit, the property tax deduction will eventually go away, this is what is called by the obama administration and the republicans no tax increases. hahahahaha

I have never seen a source for sales tax revenue by city or county.

What is your point?

I live in a very small suburb with little sales tax revenue collection but a HUGE amount of LGA recieved from the state.

My point is there are two columns on the spread sheet. Debits and credits. You are arguing against LGA as a debit to the state spread sheet. In fairness you should also consider the credit side. Where does the money paid come from?

It sounds like we have been supporting your community while our property taxes go up.

No, this is the direct result of our elected officials (both D and R, from local to state to federal)inability to control their spending while padding the pockets of their campaign contributors. We don't "need" a new football or baseball stadium, every school does not "need" a bevy of grief counselors, we don't "need" artsy hand rails and victorian style lamps on overpasses, etc etc etc.
