NEW YORK (CBSNewYork)Ė With the federal government just hours away from a partial shutdown, a new poll finds that support for the conservative Tea Party movement has hit a record low.

According to a Marist poll released Monday, 23 percent of registered voters nationwide consider themselves to be supporters of the Tea Party.

Support for the group had never fallen below 25 percent since Marist began tracking support for the political movement in Sept. 2010.

In its first poll tracking support for the Tea Party three years ago, the movement enjoyed an all-time high of 34 percent. It has since hovered in the upper 20s, according to the poll findings.

The Tea Party gambled and lost. The American people are ready to run them out of the country now. The Republican party will need to reinvent itself as a more moderate group if it expects to have any hope of avoiding major losses at the polls in 2014.

The Tea Party caused their own demise by refusing to compromise and attempting to destroy America.

The Republicans will boot the tea party out and reinvent themselves now. At least if they want any chance in 2014.

That will be next - the right wing will start claiming that the polls are skewed again.

Funny, not even the conservative pollsters like Gallup and Rasmussen can find them either.

Maybe the tea party will move to Costa Rica and live with Rush.
