So if a driver is drunk and kills "only" ONE person how many years should they get?
IMHO, a drunk killing one should get at least 5 years IN PRISON, no parole!
I agree! She did the crime and its time to do the time! Get her off the roads before she kills again!

I'm no expert, but when a car lands ON TOP OF YOU seat belt or not, you are dead.

But heck, you are 17 yrs old, so I defer to your expertise.

Make sure you get that last year of high school. And word to the wise. Those of you who come on here typing like you are texting trying to tell everyone else off make yourselves and person you are trying to defend look even more stupid.

As for now, what we all see is a selfish young woman who took a young child away from his family. Then called the news to try to appear insane. This proves she has the mental stability to understand the gravity of her situation.

Go use your text speak on your friends. The rest of us appreciate intelligent conversation.

We will now rest better that you spoke. I was able to gather this from your post.

1. There are third and fourth graders with more sense of respect than you.
2. You have no respect for yourself.
3. You are mentally ill and off your medication.
4. You are society's trash and probably love cats.
5. You must have skipped the first 17 years of school because you can't spell or form a sentence.
6. I see your future, "Welcome to __________ can I take your order?" You can choose the fast food joint.

Keanna, it appears that you know more than the state patrol here. According to the accident report, Joey WAS wearing his seat belt, and was killed when your mentally insane friend "launched" into the Balistreri vehicle.(state patrol case #10405559, look it up)
Maybe you should get your 17 year old head out of your 17 year old a$$, and stop trying to defend a criminal who should spend the rest of her life in a straight jacket. She's a murderer, plain and simple. If we had the death penalty, i'd gladly pull the lever.

Folks, we all need to settle down here. Having this young lady blab relentlessly about how great her criminal friends are is just stirring the pot to get her murdering friend off of the murder charge, and onto the mentally ill list. That shouldn't happen. This criminal case will eventually go to the Dakota County attorney, and they will proceed with the murder charges, and the murderer will spend a lot of time in prison with a lot of people that don't like people that murder kids. The toxicology reports will be back soon (taking their time to make sure nothing is missed, lots of drugs to sift through on the readings) and the case will proceed. Until then, let's just let the little criminal and her mentally challanged friends run their mouth like the blabbering idiots they are.

I knew leah and was close to her for a while, years ago. TO ALL THE PEOPLE SAYING SHE IS TRASH: she is NOT. I stopped talking to her, because it was too hard to deal with her mental illness. She is bipolar, among other things. Mixed with a drug problem, not a good combination...
Maybe next time, if you know someone that is not getting the help they need for mental illness, so bad that you would end a friendship over because it is just to hard to deal with it, Why not talk to the friend about getting help, if they refuse or don't follow through with treatment plans, then goto the parents or spouse, if that still doesn't work, contact some rehab facilities or hospitals, to see what you can do about having the person on a "hold" to be evaluated to see how bad off their mental illness is affecting them. A true friend will stop at nothing to try to help their friends when they are in need and so obviously crying out for help. Maybe you could have even prevented this horrible tragedy from happening.
