why PUNISH volunteers

#1 Dec 18, 2012
every year at the boys and girls club toys and other items are given away. each year people that will be needing these items too even have a christmas for their children are asked to volunteer their time and help un load the trucks, carry the boxes inside and sort it to prepare for the next morning. up until this year, these volunteers were given the opportunity to be at the front of the line as a result of their hard work. NOT THIS YEAR. THIS YEAR THE VOLUNTEERS WERE PUNISHED FOR SHOWING A WILLINGNESS TO WORK, TO GIVE THEIR TIME, TO GIVE SOMETHING BACK FOR WHAT THEY WERE BEING GIVEN. OUR NEIGHBOR DEPENDS ON THESE TOYS FOR HER KIDS. SHE GOT UP A 5 O CLOCK FRIDAY MORNING TO GO VOLUNTEER AND WORKED HER BUTT OFF EVEN THOUGH SHE WAS SICK.HOW DID SHE RECEIVE HER THANKS? BY BEING PUT AT THE BACK OF THE LINE WITH OTHER VOLUNTEERS. THE BACK OFF THE LINE!! HER NUMBER WAS 195!! HER KIDS GOT OLD COLORING BOOKS, BODY WASH AND CHEAP CARS. WAY TO REWARD THOSE WHO WERENT AFRAID TO WORK. NEVER AGAIN VOLUNTEER AT BOYS/GIRLS CLUB!

It isn't the Boys & Girls Club that does it. That's just the facility that is used. Your neighbor should be grateful that there are people willing to give coloring books, body wash and "cheap" cars. An old saying about beggars being choosers comes to mind.

Some of you people make me sick. Come on b*tch and complain some more about what you didn't get. Then turn your TV on and watch has they bury those children that have lost there life. UNGRATEFUL people. I was there helping Saturday morning shop with people who needed toys. Once again some people have to make Scott county look bad. Be a shame to be thankful for what u have. Why can't you be grateful you got to help make someone's Christmas better. Did you volunteer to get something out of it??? Or did you volunteer to help someone else out??? UNGRATEFUL PEOPLE. My thanks to the boys and girls club for letting them use the building.

I was talking to some of the volunteers and they said that they had to ask two of volunteers to leave because of stealing! Ok how much lower can someone be to steal something that is to be giving away to needed kids of our county! Come on people I am sure if they needed it all they would had to do is ask! What happen to all thou shall not steal!

This is the very reason I DO NOT donate to the unicorn fund anymore. Last year I watched a volunteer load her van full of toys (Good toys too- not cheap stuff) and proudly boost that she had gotten all of her grandchidlren's toys for Christmas from there. Said it was her pay for working with all these people.

iam glad tosee people still have the hear to donate and to volunteer. this lady was truly needy though. she was embarassed to not be able to afford gifts. she still put forth an effort. she felt the need to at least WORK to pay for what she was given. maybe i was harsh over what i saw her come home with, but when other people got very expensive gifts for doing nothing but showing up, then so should those who at least gave their time and energy to helping prepare the event. fortunately my wife and iare financially in a position to help her get a few more things but what if we hadnt been. how discouraging would it be to feel like you cant provide for your kids even when you tried to work for it.

From what I saw, driving by those people that were there getting "free" toys sure were driving good cars, suv, trucks and vans.

What happen to people volunteering for the right reason to help people and to make someone's christmas a lot better? That is what it was for not so someone can be at the first in line! They are people that go there at nite sit out side all nite so they can be first in there to get something nice for their child! I understand she work hard and deserved better but it sounds like she was just there to be the first one to get the best of the best not out of the goodness of her heart!

It still is not done correctly. It is supposed to be those underprivledged children. I cannot believe some of the people that were there getting FREE toys for their children and grandchildren. And yes most of the volunteers worked so they could get the best stuff first. I don't agree with how it is done, so I don't encourage it or promote it.

Families in need should have been able to be there and get things for their children. That is what it was supposed to be for. I saw way too many that were taking advantage of the program. I am sure they are telling lies and getting food stamps too. Nothing surprises me in this county.

People who volunteer shouldn't do it just because they think they are going to get something out of it. Its call volunteer

All I can do is laugh at you people. Think about what you are arguing about. It is actually very appalling.

The volunteers are great. That is a wonderful thing. But the program is not ran properly. People always find a way to take advantage of things. This is one of them. The program needs to be overhauled and ran differently.

I volunteered there several years in a row and my little 6 year old was right beside me handing me the tape so we made it our christmas gift to others by helping where it was needed. The first year we did it we were not going to have a christmas of our own due to lack of funds. I sat my child down and explained the real reason for christmas and we took a few dollars and bought enough supplies to make ornaments for the nursing home residents and then worked at the unicorn fund with christmas and volunteered at the salvation army as a bell ringer. I do not regret any of it cause to this very day my son will tell any child in a quick minute that christmas is in the joy of giving. It was a hard but very rewarding lesson for my son and God does bless those who bless others. Turns out on Christmas eve night there was a knock at the door and Santa showed up unexpectedly and my child quickly put it together in their head that when you freely give from your heart, there is always someone else looking out for you. The tradition of making ornaments for a nursing home has remained our tradition since that time and just knowing we are bringing a smile or some joy to someone else who may be stuck there and forgotten by their families is worth it all.

U will be surely blessed I wish everyone felt the way about volunteering ! Seems like everyone is all about the best, me me me and how much they got! If it wasn't for them at the boys and girls club my kids wouldn't had a christmas I would like to thank all that of them and them that had supported them!
