Already happening. In Canada if your workplace is defined as an enclosed space, getting caught smoking in it and the fine is $350.00 An Ontario man was just fined that much for breaking that law. His workplace is the cab of his semi tractor. Yes Farmers tractors,if they have a cab, also apply.$150.oo if you throw a cigarette but on the sidewalk in Edmonton Alberta. $250.00 if you smoke in your car,if children under 18 are also in it.

Also in Canada. No cafes, no public buildings, no bars, arenas, workplaces or stores. No taxi cabs, wash rooms.Outside bus stops,Hospital property.Trains,or train depots.Airports,Airplanes or most hotel/motel rooms allow smoking. Also Jails or prisons. The list grows daily. I believe in a few years smoking will not exist in North America. The Canadian Government is suing our Tobacco companies 50 billion dollars to cover health costs of smokers since the 1950's.That should wipe out tobacco companies up here.Outside a smoker must be 20 feet from an entrance.

I wrote what I did to show what was happening in Canada regarding smoking bans.I said nothing of Ohio. Your response makes no sense in any event.

You also have one of the biggest black markets there. Kids can buy all the cigarettes they want at a cheap price.
Look at the few they catch and how many get away.

you pay for this in more taxes.

Ah, the ban is already closing down business

A restaurant is Madison Heights may be forced to shut down after the smoking ban takes effect.

Owners of La Carreta have two restaurants just a quarter mile apart. One is all smoking and the other is completely non-smoking.

I do not advocate black market cigarettes.I am about 2500 miles west of where this occurs, and it is rather beyond my control.I wrote this post only to show you what you may encounter in the near future.

Really? You think a paltry sum like $50 billion Canadian is going to make the industry do more than blink a couple of times while they raise prices or figure a new access to your kids?

Studies show that 20 feet is inadequate protection from a single cigarette, let alone from a group of smokers hanging out on a smoke break. That distance is a distinct compromise, and de stink compromise de health of nonsmokers.

SHS is harmful. Refraining from smoking is not. SHS should be limited to specific areas in a nonsmoking world, not the other way around.

Tobacco farmers in Canada have gotten few and far between. Yes 50 BILION will hurt them big time. I was talking about the situation in CANADA, which is why I said "Up here"

They already do. try buying a good scotch or brandy on Sunday. Many areas you can't do that-Sob-sob. LOL Most people don't think, or at least act that way. Nicotine addicts(and all other drug addicts) have had their thought process stolen. They are suffering from "theft of self". They need all the help they can get.;~)

You can buy liquor any time any where you want. I grew up in a dry area. Bootleggers make a mint. When growing up most cops took money from them to leave them alone. When laws are made against what people want, then we create crime.

I had only heard of suits against such folk as RJ Reynolds. I know one of their Canadian subsidiaries went bankrupt when they were sued for back taxes after being busted for using an Indian reservation on the US border to ship their cigarettes then smuggle them back into the Canadian market.

Imperial is a subsidiary of BAT. Are there really strictly Canadian companies that are to take the hit, or are they mostly investments of the huge conglomerates based in the US and/or England?

If there ARE strictly Canadian companies, are they really dependent on Canadian-grown tobacco?

Unless there is a cessation of imports from the US, it is difficult to credit your forecast of the products' disappearing from Canada any time soon.

American tobacco does not sell well in Canada. The news item stated Canadian tobacco companies were to be sued.Canadian tobacco is not blended like American. Most Canadian smokers don't smoke American products as they are very different in taste.

Daily Horoscope for December 23

Taurus

Someone isn't mucking about today, and if they're annoyed about something they'll come right out with it. This means you could be on the receiving end of some zingers, but equally it means that you'll be giving as good as you get. Now, although it will be very tempting to let off steam by giving someone an earful, aren't there better directions in which to channel your energy?
