The people need to pay for there own expenses and conference and be reimbursed, THEN maybe the spending would be curbed.

I had no idea members of City Council were given credit cards. Perhaps this is the reason so many attempt to gain a city council seat. Obviously, there should be limits on the spending (of taxpayer's monies). It's amazing to me that no one thought of placing such limits ahead of time. The City Attorney's office is asleep, right?? Don't tell me. Next this will become racial, right?? Here we go again.

It's a shame our mayor didn't realize the possibility for abuse relative these city credit cards. Considering (most likely) no limitations were given the council members the possibility of forcing the member in question to pay back the overage is slim to none. Honor system, right??

I am still waiting for (infrastructure) curbing in front of my house. The city has told me for years it has no money. I certainly can't tell.

I am a former Roanoke resident, this is a very sad story for everyone around, the people of Roanoke, the city council and Mr. Dowe. We all make mistakes and Mr. Dowe has made a huge mistake that has ended is political career. Hopefully things can move forward in a positive manner with the city.

I know people who work for city school system. If you think a council member overspending on his credit card is remotely near the biggest city government problem you are in for a rude awakening in the next yr or two.
That being said, I found it both awful and amusing to see the (now former) council member in question defend himself on the local news.
He basically stole money from this city and didn't even seem repentant.
