It really depends on when you went to school there and what your last name was and whether or not you played sports. There are several teachers that go above & beyond the "call of duty" and were/are there for their students.
High School

Kenny Lou Heaton (Street) Jancie Caldwell, the Late Julian Caldwell, Roger Morgan, Larry Heaton, Danny Blevins, Eddie Roark, Roger Hollifield, Mr. Campbell (special Ed) Mr. Tester along with several others.

Elementary

Mrs Wetzel, Mrs Storie, Jim Miller, Jancie Caldwell (yes she's mentioned twice because she teaches at both schools) Mrs. Vance, Randy Julian, Mike Miller & Dawn Winters

Elementary has more good teachers than the High School that is proven by the great test scores of the elementary students.
Add to your list:
Scott Potter, Jo Buchanan & Alisa Buckner

FYI: I don't think Mike Miller and Dawn Winters should be mentioned as teachers, they are administrators and don't teach so how can they be good teachers. They may be good Vice-principal and principal but they are not in the class rooms with the students.

I will tell you. Technology will NEVER be the same since Larry Heaton retired at the High School. I hear lots of reasons he quit but think he is going to Elizabethton City. They know what they are getting. Can't believe he is gone from CHS. He gave me a start in computers I could have never got anywhere else. He taught me outside of class what I know. He took the time to show me how to do everything and not even have him in a class.

you must not know mr.Larry Heaton as well as you think you do .I wouldn't want him to teach my kid nothing. He doesn't beleive in GOD,and tried to teach us that we came from a monkey. My bible says different,I would hate to stand in his shoes on judgement day.

You are right... knowing someone well gives us the right to comment on their "religious" beliefs. I know Mr. Heaton very well. I have had the privilege to talk with him about Religion, Church, and God on many occasion. Apparently you do know know him at all. He is one of the most learned Christians I have ever known. He is very religious and has a faith that can not be compromised! Unlike you bullcrap he would never pass judgment on someone, especially a student. He treated us all the same whether we played ball or in the band! It would be my suggestion you take the time to get to know him and then judge. No, it would probably be the "Christian" thing NOT TO JUDGE at all.
I would proudly stand next to him on judgment day! I don't think I would want to be anywhere near you!

Sorry I was there and heard him say these things with my own ears.Actions speak louder than words.Wasn't judgeing ,God will be the judge. We are being judged every day by the kind of life we live.He may have changed and made things right,(I HOPE HE HAS),but as a kid the things he said has stuck in my mind for all these years.Sometimes people can fool you by how good they talk.

My siblings and I had him in the early 80's and I agree with you completely. Maybe after he married Kenny Lou he changed his viewpoint but during my time in school it was anti-religion and probably the biggest "jerk" I have ever met. He constantly belittled people, especially the less fortunate students. I think he was the "worst" person I ever had as a teacher even in college. Facts are facts!!!!!

There is a reason church and state are separated. A person's religion has nothing to do with whether or not they are a good teacher. Larry Heaton is also a technology teacher, not a science teacher, so he wouldn't be teaching evolution to anyone.

The teachers that stand out to me as being good TEACHERS (actually tried to help their students learn and prepare them for the real world) and not good FRIENDS to their students were:

Shannon Whitehead
Danny Blevins
Cheri Miller
Larry Heaton
Norma Webb

Larry Heaton began as a Science teacher and Health/Economics teacher that is when I had him. I agree there should be separation of church and state and I assure you 7th and 8th graders did not bring up religion therefore maybe Mr. Heaton should have upheld the separation. The fact that he thought it appropriate to bring his personal religious views into our class is evident that he was not such a great teacher back then. That has been 25+ years ago so I can not speak as to his abilities now but I am sure that I am not the only one that felt like he was trying to push his "atheist" agenda on us.

I totally agree that church and state should be sepaeated, but Larry Heaton brought his non-beliefs to his students which he should have kept to himself.Larry Heaton was my science teacher so you need to get your facts straight before running your mouth.Nothing I've said on here is hear-say it is a fact.He told me everything that i've said to my face. For his sake I sure hope Kenny Lou instills some of her beliefs on him.
