I have lived in several places in my life as my work has taken me there, but NEVER have I seen people as nosey as these people here. If they don't know the truth then they make it up. I am SOOOO glad that I am not originaly from here. People here seem to thrive on other's business and bad times. This is worse than Hollywood.

I think being nosey just comes along with the "small town" life. Everybody knows everybody and people tend to gossip more....some's true, some's pure lies. Some things you just have to brush off and go on about your business, let them talk all they want. Living here all my life though I'm willing to deal with some nosey people in a small town compared to the hustle and bustle life of the big city, not my cup of tea.

That is because they know they could not survive up north. Things are too civilized and too expensive. People move south because it is more affordable, and they put up with the non-sense that comes with the move for the sake of afforability. As we get older we often have to compromise in order to get by.

Man you got that all wrong we would not survive up north because we like to work to get what we want and need not have our hand out and BEG! The reason things are affordable is because if it cost too much we don’t need it… its called living within our means. If they want to sell it has to be priced reasonable or it sits on the shelf. not like people from the north that are running from foreclosed homes and bad credit to come here. And if we had to put up with the nonsense in a place like NJ. Or NYC we would surely hurt someone. So we prefer to stay close to home.

I think many people would disagree with your "if it costs too much we dont need it" analogy. I mean, are you gonna buy a total piece of crap generic version of something just because its a bit cheaper? I like what I like and I'll wait til i CAN afford the better product if necessary.

That whole attitude is part of the problem with carter county. Everyone bashes anyone who "gets above their raising". Well, I thought that was progression. To try to do better for your kids than your parents did for you.

I've lived here all my life and I have voted in every election since i was old enough to vote. I have watched council make many bad decisions. And I have watched local "leaders" stay in office that should have been ousted long ago. Same council has tried to keep this area just a step above deliverance for 30 years. Things are starting to change. We are growing and getting some things finally. Decades after all the rest of the tri cites, we finally got liquor by the drink. Finally got some places to go in town. Carter County may one day not be the laughing stock of upper east TN. It will take outside influences to help with the change. We cant stay in this little fishbowl forever. There is life outside CC and people are seeing that.

You took it to literal; saving is being able to afford it. Let me shoot this at ya, if you wanted said widget and its cost far out weighed its use would you save to buy it? Just to show people that you can? I don’t think so that was the point I was trying to get across. I mean I need a new truck but I am not going to save for a 4 door dually when I only need a run of the mill truck right. It’s stupid to do that. I love it when I see soccer moms driving to the field with one kid in a hummer. You know they are a Yankee! People from here just don’t do those things.

You hit the nail right on the head !!!!!!!!

Carter County can not live in the 50's forever.

It is time for some fresh blood, some outside influence. Not to take it to a literal extreme, but with out new blood everyone would be related to I one another and the "Inbreeding" cliché would be very true. I have even so far as met a man the other day that told me his family encouraged one another to marry with-in the blood line. This is the 21st century not the dark ages.

So by your reasoning you have never taken a loan out for some thing that you want including a house. You are a rare exception. You are implying that people from here don’t ever get into debt. That is a short sighted statement. I find it hard to believe that all the cars, houses, TV’s appliances and so on are all bought with cash.

You prefer to stay close to home because it is safe. It is all you know, and that is where a lot of the problem lies. There is a wonderful world outside of Carter County. Try to experience it and bring back your experiences. It will help you grow as an individual. It will help Carter County grow as a community. Close minded thinking is not conducive to a thriving and growing community.

Open your eyes, your mind and your heart to change. Change is inevitable. Help to make the change a positive part of the community not an angry fight. Encourage your children to be more than you are. Hope for them to have a brighter future not the same life as you have. Don’t be mad at people who have more, or at your children for wanting to rise above their up bringing. I for one want my kids to have a better life than I have. I would think every parent would want this for their children.

President Obama is not going to appreciate your impersonation of him.
