Recent F.B.I. statistics give Corpus Christi the dubious dishonor of being one of the most violent cities in Texas. Corpus Christi is ranked #1 for rape.
Why has violent crime in Corpus Christi increased? Why is Corpus Christi #1 for rape? Who's policies have failed the people of Corpus Christi, Texas? Why has the local media failed to provide significant (and in some cases any) coverage of the high crime statistics for this city? Vote and make your opinion heard! This city has gone NUTS! Recently a person was killed at Denny's over an argument of who cut in front of another at Denny's. Every day it seems like we wake up to another story of a man, woman or child murdered in the night. How and who should stop this madness? City leaders take note! You may learn something! We are asking for ideas from people all over the United States. Corpus Christi needs you ideas and help to stop the violence, especially against women. |

Recently released F.B.I. crime statistics indicate Corpus Christi has become one of the most violent cities in Texas and #1 for rape.
Who is responsible for the failed policies that have led to this increase in violent crime? Who and how can we stop this trend, especially in regards to violence against women? Why hasn't the local media provided sufficient coverage (in some cases any coverage) of the Corpus Christi crime report? People of the City of Corpus Christi elicit the help and assistance of anyone who has ideas that can stop the madness. Recently a man was killed at Denny's over who was first in line. Every morning it seems like we wake to the story of another man, woman or child killed in the night. We need to stop the madness! |

Is there a big increase in rape in Corpus Christi during Spring Break? Are there more rapes during Spring Break I think that may be a reason with all of the drunk kids at the beach.

OH! One of your options is missing and that is the district attorney. They play a big part in stopping crime too and if they have a bunch of dopes there nobody goes to jail for crimes.
Only poor and minority people go to jail or prison in Corpus Christi. There is a lot of special treatment depending on who you are. |

i think brian smith is the problem he commands the police department
corpus christi is like a alcoholic nothing will change until they admit there is a problem do you think mayor garrett or chief smith is going to admit that being number one for rape in texas and number three for murder in texas is a problem you will be waiting forever corpus is a mess last night on the news they had blood all over the street from someone stabbed by the nueces county courthouse violence and rape everywhere |

His title is police chief so it seems to make sense that if crime is out of control it must have something to do with his position.
I grant you the mayor and the city council keep him around and Skip Noe negotiated that cool deal that allowed Brian Smith to stay on the job with psychological counseling and alcohol testing for five years. It comes down to the policies of the police department and the police chief is the head of that department. If the mayor and city council are preventing him from going after everything from rape to graffiti then Smith needs to get support from the public. Anybody in Corpus Christi who thinks the current road the police department is on is good for this city has not read the crime report. |

Crime is so bad in Corpus Christi people steal from the dead

Rape! Murder! They can't stop small crime like speeders and graffiti scum. Read any basic text on criminology and you'll learn that if the police department can't control small crime you can forget the big stuff like rape and murder.
I have lived here several years and the problems get ten times worse every year. They need to make big changes at the city somewhere. |

Called the Police for car parked on our lawn. The cops arrived. Chewed me out! Thanks Officers.

I would say all of them play a part in this. However I want to point out that our district attorney can make a huge difference if they would enforce the consequences of those that break our laws. It is ridiculous that a hot check writer can get a heavier punishment than someone that drives drunk and causes injury or death. Instead of slapping the hand on child abusers, rapists (and NO Brian Smith is not a rapist..just a sorry person to be represented the department), drunk drivers, pan handlers (this one irks me), DRUG USERS, DRUG DEALERS, UNDERAGE PROVIDERS, and GANG BANGERS....how about making them serve tougher longer sentences and actually mean it. |

If you are correct that Brian Smith is not a rapist we may look at how his case was handled. Remember we were told that Brian Smith received "no special treatment" after a woman accused him of rape. Since Brian Smith received no special treatment we may assume that the following happens to everyone in Corpus Christi accused of rape.
* Get drunk with your pals at a bar. * Somehow get your car to your ex-girlfriends house at around 2:00 AM. * Have sex with this ex-girlfriend (you are engaged to someone else but what the hay). * The ex-girlfriend accuses you of rape. ***Remember the following is not special treatment*** * An investigation is opened by the Texas Rangers * You are not booked into jail. * You are not fingerprinted. * No bail is set since you don't go to court or jail. * There is character assassination of the accuser. * After a secret investigation no charges are filed. ****Then to keep your job**** * You agree to psychological counseling. * You agree to alcohol testing for 5 years. * You agree not to drink "to excess" in public. Do I have this right? No wonder Corpus Christi is number 1 in Texas for rape.

The police chief is the CEO of the police department. If there is high crime he needs to be replaced.
Another thing I want to say is that all I've heard about is that they are cracking down on prostitution in Corpus Christi. We are number one for rape and third for murder and they are cracking down on prostitution? There is something wrong with that picture. As you said the gang problem is out of control and the police seem to be afraid to stop it. For all I know they are all related to the people cuasing the problems.

I agree it is the police chief. He works at the pleasure of the city so if he screws up they should replace him but the crime rate is his responsibility PERIOD.

Many major cities fire the police chief with results like this. Will it ever happen in Corpus Christi? They spend more time covering up their problems than they do solving them.

Chief of Police Brian Smith is the head of the Corpus Christi Police Department so I don't see how the number 1 rape rating and number 3 murder rating can't rest in large part on his shoulders.
Now the other person who may hold a lot of responsibility too is Mayor Henry Garrett. As you know Mayor Garrett was the Chief of Police before he became Mayor of Corpus Christi. If the option was there I think I would have picked a Brian Smith - Henry Garrett option. It seems like the mess in the police department has now spilled over into city government now that Garrett is there. Too bad someone didn't run against Garrett after he and the City Council tried to take our beaches for use by special interests.

The Corpus Christi news sources are irresponsible for not giving this story major coverage.

What and knock some dumb story about a high school football game off the top story!

I vote Skip Noe as he cut the "deal" to keep him at his job. Now we are stuck with high crime and our Uniform Crime Report AKA the UCR is a first rate joke.
