Memories of Jackson:
The Freedom Train arrival at the RR Train Depot.
Horse racing, harness, at the Fairgrounds.
Wind coming off East end of Michigan Avenue.
Fields Dept Store at junction of Michigan and ???
The HUGE FIRE at Oppenhiemers, the Lumber yard fire that burned for week.
Hayes Hotel at the top of the hill.
Frozen Malts at the East end of Michigan Ave.
Capitol Theatre, downtown, and Mechanic street theatre off downtown, Saturday movies.
The bar streets off the East end of Michigan, at the RR intersections.
Jackson Jr College, with the polished beautiful wooden staircases leading up to class rooms.
Jackson High School, imposing, massive and tree lined streets.
Be stopped for speeding with a Hawaiian drivers license, Missisippi tags and a late registration by Jackson Police.
First street, with the original houses built in the 30s. Second street, Union ave, Jackson ave, Greenwood ave and all the other tree lined streets.
St Pauls cathedral, imposing, religious and full of bricks.
The cold winters that drove me off to the South and points west. Jackson has without doubt, the coldest, windiest streets in the whole northern tier of states.

Oh my yes it was wicked cold in Jackson. I remember walking to St. Mary's downtown and feeling like my face would freeze off. We lived on Harwood St. and it was a true hike for a young kid but all the other kids did it so we just sucked it up I guess.

Field's was at corner of Jackson St and Michigan. My mom always enjoyed the Rose Room restaurant there.
I enjoyed Ritzee hamburgers (and malts) on Michigan,
Watching b movies at the Michigan Theatre,
Woolworths lunchounette,
Field trip to Way Baking,
A&W Rootbeer stand,
Sledding at the Cascades,
Watching fireworks and getting wet at Cascades,
Waiting for the bus and wondering if I would freeze before it got there,
Playing with friends until streetlights came on,
Ice cream at the Parlor on a hot summer day,
Going to the mall and spending money at Aladdin's castle,
Coney Islands!!!,
Going to Flat Iron drug store with my Grandma (always got some penny candies),
Ice skating at Nixon Park,
Roller skating in Hillsdale (OOps not Jackson),
Riding bikes with buddies through the cemetery
Watching movies at the Bel-Air and saw ET at the Jackson right before they closed-,
Ella Sharp Park and museum,
Michigan Space Center,
Eating golumkis and ponczkis
Westwood Cinema 1&2 or Plaza 1, 2 & 3
Seeing Boss Hogg (Sorrell Booke) pull up at the Westwood Mall in his white cadillac. Sure wish I still had that autographed picture...

It's a real shame, when I go back now it is a different place. Nothing is the same, most all the factories and businesses are gone/torn down. Went to Westwood Mall last month, floors are cracked and no fountain anymore, Wal-Mart has about half the mall tied up. What did they need a WalMart for, already had two Meijer's? Guess the piss poor management of Jackson during the 80's/90's has caught up with them. Memories last a lifetime though. Thanks Jackson.

Jason if I may quote what you said here ok?"Guess the piss poor management of Jackson during the 80's/90's has caught up with them"

them?????? Ok so I can blame "them" glad to see your highly educated so I can't wait for your response? In fact please DON'T.

I'd like to explain please how local "city management is responsible for a global economic slow down resulting in local folks surfing at the loss of jobs homes family or even a day were you don't have to stressed out to the max.

Please don't give "us a black eye" we have been to hell and back several times.

Please be sensitive to your choice of words.

Exjacksonian I was born at West Foote also. I used to skate at the rollertoriam too. I wished they had a big ice skating arena here in Tennessee where I live. My father went to Parkside when he was a kid. Cascades and Ellasharpe park was awesome also. Especially when we had alot of snow or during the summer at the small lake in Cascades paddle boat riding. Paka Plaza was a great place to shop too.
