Apollo Beach is near Riverview and about 15 minutes south of Brandon. There is a beach in Apollo Beach but it is posted no swimmming due to the power plant and the under current. You can go wading in the water and it is nice.

LOL
You are talking about Apollo beach at the Canaveral National Seashore (Atlantic side of Florida). That is the nudist beach (there is more than one Apollo in Florida ;-)

I live in Riverview and I take my grandkids to the Apollo beaches sometimes. The Manatee viewing area at the power plant is also a nice FREE place to take the kids in the winter - wildlife galore and a neat little museum, facilities, snack bar, etc. I also like going to E.G. Simmons park down there (near Ruskin) which is fun to take the kids too - lots of wildlife to see such as ospreys, pelicans & shore birds and dolphins if you have a sharp eye, and wild boars if you watch carefully on the drive to it.

Apollo beach "ain't bad" but there are much better beaches to go to within a short distance (with children), such as Fort Desoto Park for example. North beach there is one of the best around for hunting sea shells with the kids (especially small kids).
