Does anyone remember when there was no fence and instead of just one "North Elementary" sign, there was 5 lollipops and each of them had one letter on them spelling "NORTH". The hot lunch was $1.00 and the food was the greatest.

Class of Mrs. Bradshaw & Mrs. Eckis. Winters were cold, lunches were great-- love the manhattan rolls! Can't believe they let us shoot BB guns in caffeteria/gym! But had a great time.

I am so excited someone else remembers Manhattan rolls, too. I have never met a person beyond someone from Lander who has ever heard of them. I adored Northside, especially such fine teachers as Mrs. Denny and Mr. Sprout. I haven't been in Lander in five years. I hope Northside is still standing.

I attended North Side Elementary from fourth to sixth grades (1962 through 1964). My teachers were, in grade order, Mrs. Fossy, Mrs. James, and Mr. McMahon. In fifth grade I remember when President Kennedy was assassinated. I mostly remember the girls screaming with tears in their faces and the upset throughout our little town. My father wanted to form a posse with other hunters to track down the killer. I also remember being made to eat all my hot lunch, which forced me to put those god awful peas in my pocket or in my milk carton. I never remember a "snow" day because someone said that it was never too cold or snowy not to go to school, but I do remember picking at the blown in insulation from the underside of the roof in the domed multi purpose room that was home to the gymnasium, lunch room, band, science fairs, etc... Mostly I remember throwing rocks at prairie dogs as I walked through the cow pastures to and from school.
