All thieves and other criminals take note. The local PD will be too busy raising money for the their government to watch for REAL crimes with REAL victims.

I don't drink, so I am going to go out and drive erraticly, just to have some fun.

Maybe it's time to cut police budgets. If all they have time for is DWI, seat belt and booster seat infractions, its time to rethink.

A drunk driver killing someone is nothing to "drink to".
Go ahead and make light of it all of you...some day someone you love or even you will be killed or maimed or hurt by a drunk driver and then I can only imagine your outrage that there aren't enough police on the roads. And I won't even discuss the he$$ you will go through losing someone you love because some idiot drunk thought he/she was "fine" to drive.
And as far as car seats and babies...same thing.
Why you hate the police is your business but I for one am very happy they are on high alert....every less drunk on the road is one less accident waiting to happen.

Lord yes.

Drunken walkers too. On the way home from the fireworks tonight I just about hit some drunk kid who stumbled out of the bushes in front of my car.

Self-destructive little buggers, ain't they?

If a cop pulled me over because they were being more diligent about DWI drivers, I would hardly complain. If I'm not drunk, why do I care if I have to spend 5-10 minutes talking with a cop when it is in the interest of getting drunks off the road?

Yes this is what happens when you drive on the sidewalk.

Snappy little comeback. Should be considered playful, I suppose.

But there is something useful there which illustrates a point.

I was in a nature preserve exiting on the driveway. Fortunately for him I couldn't have been going more than about 5MPH with my lights on. He and his pals came stumbling out and directly onto the road into my path. They were having so much fun I guess they didn't notice the sound or lights.

Imagine his indignant response when I narrowly avoided hitting him. He and his pals started the obligatory drunken cursing at the absurdity of an auto being in their way, of course.

What I'm saying? Even in small amounts alcohol impairs one's ability to make good judgements. An educated person is aware of this.

Lucky for him I was sober or it could have been his last big hurrah on the Fourth.

Evidently, your old age has slowed your reaction time because you should easily be able to stop for anything in front of you

I did stop, silly.

Your generation's perspective is oddly clouded. You put your stamp of approval on many self-destructive behaviors.

You are quick to recognize "Sexism, homophobia, racism, prejudice!" at the drop of a hat.

And yet you are blinded by your own ageism, the one abberration which will certainly be your own some day.

Patience grasshopper, there is more to learn. ;)

You got it turned around.

Disagree with the Geheime Staatspolizei, not "for" the drunks.

SunShine, I'm not sure many recognize the law of natural consequences.

I, too, am worried about the increasingly bizarre and nearly unconstitutional police action I hear about daily.

I am certain that much of it is the result of a populace which is increasingly demanding freedoms which it isn't handling safely or in a way which considers others rights and needs.

There has to be a sane balance. The only half I see so commonly from the younger generation is a demanding of rights but without acceptance of responsibility that they can handle those rights in a manner which is suitable to others in their environment.

I do remember a time when their were more freedoms and scarcely a law officer to be seen anwhere. What went along with that was that more people were acting in a manner which didn't require police supervision.

Education and treatment doesn't seem to have diminished the drunk driving problem. I would think the next logical step to protect people from drunks would be something more expedient.

I think I see cause and effect at play here.

So you are saying we have a secret police gunning for drunks? Have you missed the dozens of anti-drunk driving commercials over the weekend? You know the ones explaining that drinking over .08 and you will be ticketed? How about the ones the go into detail over just what a DWI will cost you?

Seriously, driving is not a right. Yet so many act like it is their god given right to go have a few and then go for a drive.

No I have problems being pulled over on the way home from work just because I get off around bar close and hear every stupid excuse as to why I have been pulled over even if it's not true.

DAH, it isn't all about you and your convenience, you know.

Do your best driving, suck it up and eventually you'll be moving on into the next phase of your life during which you will certainly find someone else inconveniencing your freedoms to not be bothered in the sake of others' safety.

Way it sometimes is...

Try not to take it so personally and your life will be a more contented one.

If you think you are being personally targeted because someone is out to get you you always have the option of filing a complaint.

If you find yourself frequently irritated by authorities maybe you'll need to check yourself.

Just keep giving up your personal freedoms of having to have an actual reason for being pulled over. You will fit in well in a police state just do what they tell you. With people around who don't question but follow at will I can see how people like Hitler were never questioned. Don't lose your shepherd for you won't know what to do.
