Jesse has said his top priority is to cut Melrose Park's debt. Jesse, during a recession, there are plenty issues that take priority over cutting local debt. Balancing a budget is one thing, but cutting debt during a recession sounds like something... well it sounds like something a proud DeVry grad would suggest.
1) It means he would have to raise taxes (as if times aren't hard enough).
2) It means he wouldn't take necessary action to spend money and secure our town. What type of actions am I referring to you might ask. Well he wouldn't have pushed for the town to purchase the condos on Division and 24th. And why was Serpico purchasing those condos a good move you might ask? Because it blocks more investors from coming into Melrose Park and turning more real estate into Section 8 housing.
These investors turning our town's real estate into Section 8 housing is what is crippling our town. This is why crime is up and why last week's tragic murder occurred. Serpico understands this and is taking the necessary steps to block it. The biggest step being the purchase of the condos on 24th and Lake. Would Jesse do the same? No! Because Jesse read a book at DeVry that said debt is bad. And so now that's his top priority. If Jesse was mayor (good god just writing that hypothetical intro made me cringe), he would be so clueless that he would welcome in investors from anywhere - I mean we HAVE to get this town out of debt by any means necessary right Jesse?
What Jesse doesn't understand is that when the country is working through a recession, the LAST thing local government needs to do is raise taxes and aggressively try to get the town out of debt. What local government SHOULD do is focus on BALANCING their budget and SECURING their town from further infiltration of poverty. And as the country, state, and town bounces out of recession, THEN the town should focus on taking the steps to run a surplus budget and take the town out of debt.
Jesse, go back to DeVry and read another book.
for the average Joe who is not politically inclined and doesn't know much about how the government is run, this explanation sounds very logical and I understand it. Thanks for explaining it. I would be interested in how Jesse would respond to this. I would like to know how he plans to cut debt for Melrose Park?

Section 8 housing has been in Melrose Park for a long time. So the concept of purchasing real estate to keep undesirables out of town seems great. However, when real estate is down buy....sell when prices are higher.

I always hear Jesse walking talking about getting rid of the town's debt. I bet he would LOVE to sell property all over Melrose to anyone, as long as it brings in tax money to get rid of the debt! If he were mayor the whole town would be section 8! I didn't even think about it like that.

Let me explain this for the Taxpayer.

Investors buy rental property, and then make it section 8 compliant, and then apply for it to become section 8 rental property. Once approved, they fill the properties with low income tenants. Investors love section 8 housing because as long as there are section 8 tenants in the property, the state gives the rental property owner a check every month no matter what.

To sum it up: when you rent, you rent from someone who owns the building.

there are already people using Section 8 in Melrose, and Jesse Martinez is not mayor. To say that he will make the entire town full of section 8 holders is the stupidest thing i have ever heard. Instead of scaring Melrose Parkers with nonexistent issues, why don't you focus on what is actually going on? the condo building was not bought to prevent Section 8 from coming in, it was bought to bail out his friend developers that weren't able to sell units and were going bankrupt. If your so appalled by Section 8, why dont you even mention the fact that people with section 8 already live in the town and Serpico has done nothing about it, not that he can lawfully do anything about it to begin with. Blame Jesse for something you would never blame Serpico for, even though one is doing it in your imagination and the other is actually doing it in reality. The hypocrisy is disgusting. And before you speculate on what Jesse would do, how about you take the time to ask him you racist low-class fear mongers. Truth be told, I would rather have the town full of section 8 voucher holders than closed-minded fools who are blinded by their own bigotry and who would rather see the town be run to the ground by admittedly incompetent leadership than take the opportunity to at least genuinely inform themselves of what the other side stands for.

Truth be told: I would rather live next to a closed-minded fool who is blinded by their own bigotry and who would rather see the town be run to the ground by admittedly incompetent leadership than section 8 people who can't keep their yards clean (depreciates the value to my home), nor can control their teenagers (may influence my kids to gang bang), have loud parties at their house which again depreciate the value of my house! People who are bigots & racist have to deal with their own internal problems being racist etc... That doesn't affect me. As long as he keeps up with his property I really don't care about his morals!

Section 8 exist in Melrose because of Serpico. Let's vote him out of office. He has destroyed our town.

Your attempt to sound intelligent is funny, and pathetic. Someone gave you a thesaurus when you were in college - that's great. Unfortunately, you never took a graduate level business class, or English class for that matter. So now you sound like a moron who thinks he's educated but is not. It's actually quite sad. I know someone like you, it's unfortunate watching him function in everyday life. It's like giving someone a hammer and that person thinking he's now a qualified construction worker who can build a house. Or giving someone a scalpel and that person thinking he's a doctor ready for surgery.

The point is we've already seen what Jesse will do - look no further than Stone Park. It has all the makings - high taxes, strip clubs, adult bookstores, prostitute bars, etc.

I simply don't have the time, desire, respect, etc to meet and converse with someone like Jesse Martinez. There are too many people "blinded by their own unintelligence" in this world to talk to every one of them.

There's a guy selling an entry-level position in a pyramid scheme, he lives right here in Melrose. I'll give you his number. What you're not even going to give him a chance? Are you blinded by your own bigotry? Just give him a call, and meet him! He'll get you in early, you'll make a ton of money!

Ur right there are Sec 8 housing in MP but its inevitable. There are laws that Serpico has to respect, and he does. Therefore what's out of his control??? He can't control, just like Jesse will not be able to control, nor any other Mayor!
