I found the books to be old and outdated at River Grove LIbrary. Also books cater to either the very young or the elderly. Nothing in between. But mostly old.. like no one goes and updates the books on shelf.
that is because there are no professionals working in the library to do the work. Most of them are paid minimum wage.

I called the river grove library to find out if I could request books from the triton library on the library system as far as lending and sharing libraries. I had to run errands for my son with broken pelvis and I did not want to go to Triton to save time. You would think the lady who answered would know if Triton was on the sharing system. She told me I had to come in and check for myself on the computer. She had access to the computer and I am sure there is a list of all the sharing libraries. I was shocked. I found that hard to believe and acceptable. Not very helpful and unprofessional for a library.

I heard the library was closing at the end of the year. Hope that is not true. I would hate going all the way to Elmwood Park ...gas went up and am trying to save moneyl. Plus I cant see and would probably run someone over.

about time....that libraryis a dump.

also the last time I was there there were these old clerks who were always mad about something. There was this heavyset lady Chris who sat there and went on and trashed everyone else who worked there. She seemed to hold grudges a lot.

Also last time I was there the roof was leaking and there were wastebaskets everywhere collecting the dripping water.

On the subject of toxic, there's nothing worse than the Aldi in Harwood Heights. They sell food there. Yuck!

That place has to be closed down.

This is not true. The library is not closing.

They just did not receive money for the grant to build a new library.

AGAIN...the library is not closing.

Support your library so it does not close for real.....by visitng it.

The Library is NOT closing. In fact there has been an increase in usage and the number of people visitng the library. 2 years ago..about 48,000 things were checked out in one year. Last year, this number has jumped to 66,000 items, according to an article in the latest elm leaves.

That is good news.

Also....finally they have made it convenient for people to return books by putting in a book drop. Not sure why it took so long...what did the board talk about for the last 10 years...didt they talk about ways to improve the library? Not sure. if it takes them that long to get a book drop...it may take half a century to build a new library...certainly hlope not.

All I have to say is ....the library is an important part of life in River Grove and people should support it.

Visit your library.

The library is in a toxic building. I noticed the tile coming off the floor. It is a tile that was installed in the sixties... which in those days were all made of asbestos. They should really check that building out. Also heard they had mice running around in the childrens section.
In a previous blog, someone mentioned the library was going to be reported to OSHA.

the library is not closing. However I wonder why they even bother thinking about opening a new library. When I visit the library during the week...I see more staff than actual patrons. Each time i visit during the week....it is about 2-5 people total for patrons. The only time the library has a crowd is when they have a program and those are usually moms with their kids.

But otherwise the library is virtually empty during the day. It gets more people in the evening.

Why even entertain building a new library...if there are not enough patrons visiting the current library? Makes no sense. Also it seems there is no stability in keeping the staff working at the library also. And by the way...it seems that they cant even get anyone run for trustee.

Given all this,,,why even think of building a new library.. it would be a waste of money.
