Sad that someone died, however since we pass so many laws to protect these idiots from themselves looks like natural selection in nature is still at work. Maybe if we banned rubber rafts this death would not have happened.

I got held up in traffic for 40 minute on this too. Had the whole area blocked off for quite some time.

No, the man did not have a death wish. Don't you understand the term "accident?" Your stoooopid comments just go to show how cold and insensitive society has become, and the all time low it has stooped to! This man had a family you morons! And I am one of them!! You people should be ashamed of your sarcastic comments that clearly show your lack of character. I'm GLAD you were inconvenienced "Disgruntled" what makes you think that your time is so special and precious? A person ought not to think so highly of themself. Remember, karma's a BIć()! What goes around, comes around. Pity you when one of your loved ones die! I'll have the same amount (or lack of) sympathy for you! Wouldn't want to be in your shoes come judgment day! I loathe the ignorance of the likes of you! All of you people's comments were insensitive, rude, and uncalled for! What, do you have icewater running through your veins?!? How dare you! You can't even respect the fact that this man may have family reading this article?!? Maybe "natural selection" will visit your doorsteps one day soon! You pathetic excuses for human beings!

I apologize for my outbursts of anger. I just want people to know that this man, who is being called an idiot and a fool had a family who loved him dearly and who are deeply grieved over his loss. We are trying piece together Everette's last days and make sense of all this. To have to read insensitive comments like the ones I've read have just added insult to injury. PLEASE people, I implore compassionate and realize that you're not the only ones who read these comments! I want you to know that I have had time to reflect on my anger and hurt and think about WWJD. He would have said, "Father forgive them, for they know not what they do." I have chosen to forgive you.

Sorry for your lost. Ignorant people can be cruel unfortunatley . I was there when this happened, having lunch at Stella's with the kids. He was trapped in the backwash for awhile and I think that sapped his energy so he couldnt hang on the life preserver. There were also a lot of big tree logs and he may have gotten knocked around by them too. Any idea why the guy put in the water right before the dam?? That was the big question we had. Beings it's only a 4ft drop we thought maybe he thought he could make it over safely. I wish something more couldve been done but it would be suicide to jump in the cold water at the time. The river is high and the current fast right now. He had the best chance possible to survive as the fireman were right there on another call and saw him go over. So sorry for you loss.

I am so sorry, so very sorry that this has happened to you and your family. I am even more sorry for those who's hearts are cold and lash out in ignorance and hatred for what they know nothing about.

This young man must have had a traumatic experience or an illness to cause him to enter such a turbulent waterway. All I can say is that one day God will give him the joy he always deserved and silence those whose hearts are unresponsive to his plea to someday experience this same joy forever.

I pity those who cannot put their anger aside and strive to be peaceful and loving with one another. I pray that you will one day feel the joy of knowing true love and the peace that comes from forgiving those who need it from you.

Drownings of this type are a yearly occurence and sadly many times those who have jumped in to help also have drowned.

I'm familiar with that dam and although it may not look dangerous do realize that large logs and other debris are trapped in the backwash for weeks and even months showing how powerful it really is.

As to the family members of the victim , I wish others had more compassion and common sense when replying .

They've talked about demolishing this dam for a long time , I for one would like to see it happen , not only is it a safety issue but also a good idea for nice recreation area for canoes and small boats.

I "spoke" to him a few days before his death. I believe he "said" he was from Missouri. He seemed very lonely.
