Ok there is a major problem with the new Bus company running Riverside Unified Schools disticts

The Bus company http://www.ridesta.com/ Student Transportaion of America won a massive contract bid, but have been doing an atrocious job. The buses are late, going on the wrong routes, doubling up the kids (I am sure there is safety violations here) no ac, the kids are dripping with sweat when they get off the bus and some days these idiots are not even turning up to take our kids to school or return them.
Riverside Unified School district is telling us to bare with it for a few weeks.

STA are giving us the run around, yes I have spoke to their corporate offices, they treat us with corporate contempt, of course they do, they already got their $37million contract.

Does anyone know what steps can be taken to get this problem fixed??

My kid was dumped off the bus yesterday with what was very close to heat exhaustion, she was burning up and it took me a while to get her back to normal.

Do I have a cause to sue someone, and get this charade stopped before another kid is hurt or even dies from this negligence?

Please constructive comments only, there's plenty of us parents getting really tired and angry with all of this worry every day.

Hey Parents -
A piece advice from someone who's dealt with Government Contracting at various levels!
Get your hands a copy of the ACTUAL CONTRACT that the City (or USD or whomever) executed with the Bus Co. If its a public agency THEN THE CONTRACT IS A PUBLIC RECORD AND YOU CAN SEE IT!!! Look thru it and find out what kind of performance standards it sets. Also, if there are any milestones for performance or (better yet) payments. Sometimes (if the agency is SMART - tho few are!!!) They'll have a CLAUSE in the contract stating (for example) that after the first year under the contract, performance will be reviewed and the contract cancelled if performance is not as originally promised.

More commonly, you'll see contracts that are for 3 to 5 years and that have extension clauses for (say) up to 2 MORE years if the agency wants to continue to keep the company.(The companies like this because they can possibly get 2 more years of guaranteed clients without having to go thru bids again. The agency gets to avoid going thru the request for bids process - I've done it - its a huge hassle! Also, from a "Grass Roots" level - you might want to find out 2 things (finbd out WHO at the RUSD is the person responsible for coordinating with the bus co.- SOMEONE at the RUSD is at least cutting the bus co. checks --- believe me, THAT person will truly know "what's what!" Secondly, find out WHO the person AT THE BUS Co. is that is handing the RUSD "account." That is - there may be 1 or more day-to-day managers for the bus co., but there'll be a single higher-level (management or executive type) who oversees the whole "account" with RUSD. Start bugging THAT person. When he/she starts to realize that his/her account could go south, they suddenly get a LOT more helpful! And, btw, THIS executive type person will be the REAL person with ANY power to affect ANY kind of change with the service. The SECOND bit of advice is to find out how the RUSD oversees the contract - Like, WHO approved it? If it was approved by the School Board themselves, then go to their public meetings and during the "public comment period" ask that a NEW AGENDA ITEM be added for the NEXT meeting to discuss "PROBLEMS WITH XXX BUS. CO's SERVICE" (or whatever). This is how you get "on the agenda" with these agencies (necessary cuz of Brown Act and other laws regarding public notice and stuff - very archane.....) Once you have a date on the agenda, contact the local papers, radio (NPR at KVCR perhaps?) etc. etc. Once you start "going public" in this mannor, THEN things will start to get done.(And, it's an election year, right? That helps!!!) WIshing you good luck in "fighting the system"!

I work for another school bus service & I ALWAYS see these STA buses in the Williamstown / Monroe township area on the road between 3:00 & 4:00 pm.
There are always children standing up on the buses while they're moving. Children are clearly not wearing the seatbelts on the bus. EVERYONE on my bus wears a seatbelt because i make sure they have them on.
Why don't the aids on these STA buses make sure every child has a belt on?

Been driveng a bus for years. I did even drive for STA once. Never ever heard of a school bus in the north east with air conditioning. If you have a complaint then go to a school board meeting and ask them to fund it. They don't care. No one goes to them anyway. Most school districts fill buses at least 2 to a seat in HS some more. So stop complaining You can drive the kid yourself,

Some buses have air conditioning in the North East. I know Holcomb bus service has air conditioned buses.

Why is it not a law that all school buses be airconditioned? It gets over 100 degrees in these things easy .. Its still a form of transportation for
Humans for crying out loud!! Ive seen children throwing up, drivers literally passing out due to heat . Its really not fair that every other form of human transport have to be airconditioned but school buses does not have too why??

Cherie, Im not sure why you're concerned about school buses. Judging by your inability to write, Im under the impression you never even went to school.
Let me explain a few things:
1. It is not a company at large who hires poor drivers. New drivers come in at the beginning of a year for each transit location. It takes time to see who can do the job, and who can't. Drivers also have to make it through a specified route in a set amount of time made up by people who never even drove the route. Finding the best way to plot the route out, remember names and drop off/pick up points, and deal with the school not giving the company the right points and missing them, back tracking them, etc. is all a part of the first month or two of the school year. If this company never had this contract before, the drivers will struggle for a while, when the last company may have had it down PAT from previous years of experience on these routes. Having a CDL and clearances get you the job, poor driving reported politely to the transit station with bus number, place, time, and incident info can get them fired. Its location specific, not company specific. I've worked for three bus companies. Trust me. Even the police can assist you with a dangerous driver; they can lose their CDL, hence their job.
2. Buses aren't air conditioned. They just are not. Its not just your child suffering, its the drivers and attendants, too. It should be made illegal, but the point is that it is not. Smaller vans/mini-buses often have A/C, but big buses don't. Windows go down, kids dress for warmer climes and drink plenty of cold water. There are, in existence, and in most fleets, newer fangled big buses that have A/C. Problem is, these buses are expensive and A/C, as we all know, eats up fuel. Its financially insane to replace all older buses with these new ones.
3. You make sure your kids on the bus have their seat belts on? Are you really a bus driver, because that smells like bull to me. Big busses, traditionally, do not HAVE seat belts. In most bus crashes, students make it out fine without seat belts on. It has a lot to do with physics and math, both of which Im sure you're terrible at, considering you're already awful at the simplicity of lying which even children can do. Vans/buses have seat belts, however, and attendants are often on these vehicles to assure students have them on. I want to see you parents with a bus of 60-80 kids driving that mammoth through traffic during rush hour while making sure those little miscreants keep their butts parked.(Btw, hey parents, discipline your kids so they're not one of those little jerks. Its called taking partial responsibility for your child's behavior. They are drivers, not baby sitters.)
4. If you think STA has bad drivers, try First Student. I had a driver I worked with, too old to see, drove on the wrong side of the road, hit street signs, and nearly mowed down pedestrians in the crosswalk at a stop. Even after 4 accidents she wasn't fired. Why? Because no one outside of the company reported her! Those who work together in a fleet know our crappy drivers, but in the office, our complaints are ignored. Others, whether parents, other drivers, or pedestrians, need to report drivers and it needs to be more than one person reporting per incident.(Avoiding vendettas and parental ignorance and drama that is common fare in bus companies.)
My mom's been a bus driver for 20 years, now. I've heard it all before I even became an attendant.(6 years experience.) I had the chance at getting my CDL and getting paid twice as much, but when you see the bull crap these drivers deal with, you could never pay me enough to deal with these kids and drive at the same time.
If you don't like your bus company, I agree: drive them yourself.

P.S. no, there is no legal action you can take because the driver and company did nothing wrong.

They are learning new routes and busses just do not have A/C and aren't required to.

Whats more, you are not required to put your kid on a school bus. The liability is on you, as the parent, for using the option offered to you, to use the bus services offered by your school district.

Your driver/company did nothing illegal and you chose this option, yourself, hence why corporate doesn't care. Besides, corporate offices don't handle issues like that. The garage that issues the services to your school district does. Call THEM or call the school principal to complain.

Well for the second time in a week a bus driver from STA ran our red flashing lights while we were loading a wheelchair. We just got her bus number on Tuesday 4/8/14 because we wanted to be able to report her if she did it again.
The first time she ran the red flashing lights was on 4/4/14 last Thursday. She looked right at my driver as she was raising the lift as she was passing our bus. And when the father of the person we were loading ran into the street & yelled at her she just ignored him. What makes a bus driver think they can just go through red flashing lights on a bus from another company?
The father went inside and called the police & when we reported it to our company, they also called the police.
I hope this driver was fired on the spot when she got back to Corkery Lane in Williamstown where her company is located.

If you were a bus driver you'd know the bus has to be running in order for the wheelchair lift to work. Also the emergency brake has to be on for the lift to work. Buses transporting special needs children and adults can be left running so the air conditioner can be left on while the passengers are on the bus.
